What is up with DX12? I read a little about DX12 once in a while and don't understand why it is not going at all in the race car sim world? I would think it should be better for VR? I don't know anything about this and I am not second guessing rF2 or any other sim developers for not using DX12 but what is wrong with it? Does it only work with Windows 10?
Correct, Windows 10 only. By using DX11, no one has to move to Windows 10. You also have a smaller user base.
And then there's the question of which multi-GPU mode to support so that we can all go out and put 3x GTX 1080 Ti, with each running a 4k monitor or TV.
DX12 has some huge advantages for Core Utilisation and CPU utilisation, and uses SLI/ crossfire technology much more efficiently.. However it is constrained to Win 10 and only high end cards, so your user base is confined.. For a new title in development if you can resource to support 11 and 12 awesome, however it has to be a consideration early on in development. There are some sim titles coming with it soon, however current generation doesnt cover it.
You'd think by now developers would get together and work to a standard API that isn't tied to windows or anything else. I'm sure it's not that simple by the way !
Thats the Vulkan API hosted by the Khronos Group - platform independent - also known as the "Next Generation OpenGL". see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkan_(API) In a perfect world in the future Vulkan API would be used for rendering 3D and OpenXR for AR/VR.
Dx 12 is better than dx 11 only 3% With the great work that has cost install dx11, it is not necessary dx 12 How many native games do you know dx12? And windows 10 is crap
DX11 isn't even here yet... knew it wouldn't take long for someone to say "What about the <insert number> gfx API?!111"
