Howdy , I saw AMD will be using PCIe-3 and DDR4 with their new motherboards and thought that this would be a good update path for AMD users .
At the moment I have GTX970 that could use PCIe-3 , but runs @PCIe-2 and my memory is DDR3 .
I've done some searching but info is scarce and I'm 75% sure my FX-8350 won't fit in an AM4+ socket .
I'm not completely sure it won't fit because AMD says the AM4+ will support "Athlon(tm) Processors" and
"CPUs upto 8 cores" , Athlons are 'ancient' aren't they?

If the 8350 don't fit , what AM4+ CPU will give similar performance to it ?.., I ordered a B350 board and some memory so my fingers are crossed . :D

    Thanks.

I would agree with your assessment, I don't think an AMD FX would work in a socket AM4 mobo. Even if it would fit physically it probably wouldn't work together with DDR4 RAM.

Any Ryzen 3/5/7 series AM4 CPU will offer better performance in rF2 than FX, Ryzen has about 50% better single-core performance than FX, which is all that matters in rF2.

Unfortunately AMD took too long and I had to go to the dark side as an upgrade path. A pity, as I have never had any issues with any of their products. Will be interesting to see if its as good as some of the pre release claims. I have heard the processor is backwardly compatible to am3+ but could be wrong.

No, the old FX series will not fit into the new AM4 socket.

    It's old but true:
For rFactor2, all you need is a highly clocked 4 core CPU. (Any Intel i5 cpu from the past 6 years, or any Ryzen cpu). Any of these at 3.0GHz+, and you'll be fine.
This means that the cheapest Ryzen CPU with only 4 cores will blow into bits your current CPU. It's around a 2x perfomance bump over the FX-8350 in rFactor2.

    Thanks for the replies .
The 8350 was/is a great CPU for the $ but hungry @ 125Watt and hot (H100i to tame it at 4.5Ghz)
    My system now

Ryzen 1500x @ stock (3.9Ghz) using power saving
    Asus B350 Motherboard
    16GB (8GB x 2) RAM 3200 @ 2666 DDR4 (NOT Qualified Vendor List)
    GTX 970 FTW @ stock PCIe-3 x16
    Monitor No.1 BENQ 24"Z 144Hz @ 100Hz 1920x1080
    Monitor No.2 Viewsonic 19" @ 60Hz 1440x900 using Extended Desktop , BENQ Primary .

Stock cooler is mostly as quiet as the 8350 with the H100i because the 1500x is only 65Watt.
    As a system , about 20% / 30% improvement approx .
