    Hi,

Im new to track modding, and am trying to create a raceline groove in 3dsmax. I managed to create the mesh shape well enough using a particular technique but and am having trouble getting the mesh to sit perfectly flat over the contours of the track , especially around corners with cambers for example.

This image is an exagerated example of what Im talking about.

Is there an easy method that anyone knows about and can give us a few hints about how to collapse the whole of the raceline mesh to fall evenly contoured over the contour of the track?

    Thanks.

I'm not fully awake yet so this may be a silly question: why would you even want to model a mesh for the ideal racing line?

You do not need additional mesh for racegroove. Dynamic racegroove is build-in to RealRoad shared (material) and only thing you need to do is map racegroove texture on your track mesh. Please refer rFactor Wiki - Modding information for detailed description about RealRoad shader functionality.

If you are looking for method to apply decals (like paint) on your RaceSurface, then you need additional mesh. One method is make flat mesh, which includes your mapped decals, above track surface and "Conform" it to the RaceSurface. There is several tutorials about 3dsmax Conform - function on YouTube, which can be easily found with google.

The Confirm function gets a good result.

    Thanks for that.
