Have you ever been curious to try an rFactor 2 car in its early development stages?

Here's your chance to do it! We are proud to announce a brand new series of content that will be released exclusively through the Steam workshop - it's called the “Development Preview (WIP).”
You will get to witness “the making of” the next rFactor 2 car, watch its graphics and physics take shape, and participate with your feedback.

Michael Borda, our Lead Physics Developer, will be giving away some of his secrets. In his new developer blog, he explains the process involved in car physics and offers hints and tips on how to convert or mod a car for rFactor 2.

Find out which epic car will open the series in Michaels' first post here!

Follow the Workshop item link in his blog and click “Subscribe”.

    Have fun, and GLA! ;)

This seems to me a fantastic initiative. It would be great if you could see the same but with the creation of a track.

Great stuff , budding builders could follow along step by step creating their own release.

I read the topic tittle, and I just knew it had to do with steam propaganda......more "forcing" if you want the good stuff.

Edit; can we conclude from this, that if you don't go on steam, in the future we won't get any newer cars/content anymore too??

If we assume there will be continuing new builds on Steam, and some of those builds include new features that new cars rely on, then those cars obviously wouldn't work on the final non-steam build.

On the blog we do mention.
The main reason for us to use Steam (for the Brabham) is that it's easier to offer up frequent updates via Steam than it is via our other means.

Lazza is correct in that at some point content updates may not work 100% properly on the non-Steam version. However, a concentrated effort is being put into fixing/improving existing model issues for the next build, and so the physics should become more stable going forward. I can't speak for graphics, but if there are additional physics changes, they should remain compatible with the last non-Steam build. That way, it should work, even if you don't get the latest code.

Not propaganda at all - fun :)

As Michael mentioned the Workshop platform lends itself to this, because for us it's super easy to distribute content frequently and users get it automatically and don't have to fuss. I've been using Steam Workshop for the Test Team for months and it's helped lower my workload and streamline weekly testing, and testers are delighted to get content automatically. So we thought, hey why not let the public have some "fun" and enjoy watching a car progress.

And yes I can assure you, the Brabham will be downloadable off rfactor.net once it's finished.

Excellent drive already, especially when you adjust suspension according to the weight distribution (stiffer rear).
