I have posted this some time ago in the bug reports section, but it seems nobody noticed it, so I post it a bit more prominent now.

There is a bug in the rF2 LOD system which removes the LOD's every time you switch to TV cam. This can cause a drop in fps performance by up to 30% (depends on the number of cars, the mod and how good it's optimized in terms of LOD's). If you do a practice session and go back to pitmenu there is an automated switch to TV cam, so it's hard to avoid it.
The best way to test it is to select race only with a large field of cars, pause the game while standing in grid, activated frame counter (ctrl + f), note fps count, select TV cam (page down), go back to cockpit view and check fps again.

In devmode with wireframe enabled it looks like this.

LOD distance for LOD A carbody is 2 meter. LOD B is active.

After I switched to TV cam and back to swingman LOD A is active. From now on all performance optimisations are useless.

Sooo that's why hm... hope there is a fix soon.
And also a fix for the camera going TV mode when we go back to pits. Should stay in cockpit.

Btw, there is a workaround for offline races. In grid press escape and click restart race.

With no feedback loop or bug list or to-be-fixed list, we have no idea which bugs ISI is paying attention to, or where they are in the priority stack if they are paying attention to them.

I would be shocked if they weren't actively trying to fix this one, but... Since this is such a huge one, perhaps Tim will check with the authorities and let us know.

That does make a lot more sense as one day I have decent FPS, the next day not so much. Hopefully this gets taken look at.

    Great catch Tosch!

Oh shocked yeah , huge......... that's really going to help matters isn't it.

    FPS drop..........okay ..............

Don't play toy cars using ESC to PIT like a rookie !@!

If you do it properly you will never see TV cam in a session.......EVER

Why use ESC and magically be transported to your Garage.

Drive to your bloody box instead you won't see a TV cam ;)

    Talk about simulation !

    lol

Of course it needs fixing but there are ways around it, sheesh.

Barely effects Historic F3 fps which is good for me.

Ever heard of "Forced Cockpit " ? ;)

I keep telling people running a server for offline has advantages.

Sitting in pits with forced cockpit you cant change cams.

If you are in the pits in forced cockpit and change to any other cam by swapping cars the fps will return to normal when you go back to your cockpit.........

Workarounds (forced cockpit, press esc, etc) may serve for Project Cars, but this is RF2 and we are looking for a polished product like has always been.

It's great for you that you're not affected by only using the minimally looking cars, DD, and that you don't mind always driving an additional lap (and you still have to hit Esc to go to garage). That still is not the point.

I thought the known issues text file/thread told what is being worked on? It shouldn't really matter in what order they do them. That is up to them to decide depending on staff availability and other things.

Don't know why but my game never goes to TV view when either pitting via box or using escape ? it always stays in cockpit ? maybe Im misunderstanding the issue .

Mine always do. Even if the fps problem is fixed I'd like it ot stay on the cockpit cam simply because some tracks can be a bit heavy on the pit lane in TV camera, so to avoid future problems would be nice if it stayed with the selected default cam =/

I seem to be able to reproduce it only in race session. - 10% fps.
I can reproduce it every time I restart race from the garage after pressing ESC.
In practice session fps stays the same or apparently I cannot reproduce it after restarting weekend.

It would be nice Tosch, if you could update some vehicle in order that when the LOD changes some part of the car disappears. That way we would not need to rely on fps to check if lod has changed or not and would be easier to asses the bug and in which circumstances is getting wrong.
I don't know how to setup the LOD of a car to do it myself.

Wild guess, maybe you disabled this in the player.JSON?

    "Monitor Auto Replay":true,
"Monitor Auto Replay#":"whether to automatically start a replay when returning to monitor",

Can't quickly see any other options for switching to TV cam at the monitor.

I've made a "tiny" change to the max LOD of the Nissan 370z body. I hope everybody can see it. :D High, med and low LOD are unchanged.

Session start. LOD out for max LOD is 15 meter.

    Switch to TV cam.

    Back to Swingman.

Nice job Tosch. You IDed the problem and clearly demonstrated it with testing and images.
