    Hello ...

... just bought rFactor 2 (Lifetime) but I did not know that my ingame name will be set at purchasing the game.

I thought that this will be used just for billing.

Can I change it some how

I would like to change the surname ... family name is ok.

    LG, Lucky

    http://isiforums.net/f/showthread.ph...r-name-in-game

....To change your name in game, you must do:

    - windows bouton, execut, write "%appdata%".

    - you're now in Roaming folder with a .rFactor folder in. In this folder, open rFactor.name file with notepad.

    - change your name (first it's your firstname, second your lastname and last your nickname)

    - save and put the file on Read-Only, it's essential !

    Tested

Mate it appears some questions asked in these forums are "skipped" over only for the fact I would say that they are too easily fixed
and "somebody else will help him", Your name can be changed in your player.jsn file. Open your main directory, click on Userdata/player,
then Player again. scroll down till you find Player name and just below is Player nick. change them in there and save.
It would pay to save this player file somewhere safe as a backup before touching it.

You will find a lot of things in here can be changed in a couple of seconds, and have huge impacts on how the game feels. It is in here
you can "personilize" the game to suit your needs/wants.
Controller.ini is also a big "game changer".
Would Hate to be coming into rFactor 2 "cold" like yourself. I shudder to think how I would go if I never had rFactor 1 all those years.
My guess is these forums are about to be filled with "stupid questions", like my unanswered one two days ago regarding Mod Manager.
    Hope this helps.

    Dave.

Make sure that you change the file in the AppData folder to read only after editing.

    c:\Users\<User>\Documents\rFactor2\UserData\player\player.JSON

Open that file with Notepad, inspect, and find the line,

    "Package Dir":"Packages",
    "Player Name":"<insert name>",
    "Player Nick":"<insert name",

It's pretty early in the file, under the "Driver" section.

Now that the game is on steam will the %appdata% edit still work ??
in our league all the players that switched have the wrong names now so the output results don't work .. we use real (or at leastproper) names in our league ..nic's are not allowed for official events ..
    any Ideas?

    thanks ;-)

The app data edit worked for one of our members last Thursday (he is on steam version).....the trick is after editing is to make the file read only.

With Steam, click your Steam user name in the upper right corner of the rFactor2 Launcher.

It is like Goanna says - in the launcher it is wrong but in game OK. So I am satisfied as it is then. Thanks for replying
