Hi all, I am running a study and want participants to drive around a track (Joesville) at a restricted speed (ideally 60kms). I am using single player and I have tried activating "speed limit" but when I press the speed limit button, during drives, it reports back that "Speed limit is: off" and no mater how many times I press it it won't turn on. I have looked into the .MAS files of the tracks and vehicles but can only find speed limit in regards to pit lane. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
I fear that it is impossible. Even if you e.g. would create a new AIW file, where the track is the Pitlane, everybody could turn off the Speed-Limiter. Maybe you better modify a car in that way, that it reaches just 60 Km/h.
The speed limit can be activated anywhere, so if the participants are willing they can all switch it on (or leave it on) it will work - providing the car has one, of course. But redapg is right, if you (for example) gave the vehicle a single gear and lowered the rev limit you can probably make it stop at 60 or so.
Yeah, just wasn't sure what the context was... but once you're riding that white line it would be tempting
Yeah, ideally i'd set up the speed limit to space bar on a keyboard that participants couldn't access, as they are in a car simulator. I want to stop them from just putting their foot down on the pedal and reaching 130kms and flying off the course. So i think my problem is none of the cars have the speed limit function and i'll just have to modify a car to have lower RPM, as you guys recommended. Thanks for the feedback!!
+1 in .HDV: [ENGINE] SpeedLimiter=1 // Whether a pitlane speed limiter is available in engine.ini: RevLimitRange=(7000, 100, 5) RevLimitSetting=0 RevLimitAvailable=1 RevLimitLogic=150 RevLimitHardTime=0.08 Don´t think it´s the same though. What exactly are the engine.ini lines for?
Changing gear can give you a slight speed boost... got a penalty in a race once doing that, had the limiter on the whole time but changed up a gear when on the limit and it flicked up for a moment. So avoiding gear changes would be good, could use the limiter as well.
