Is there a free method where you can import objects into a track and place them easily because in 3d simed, it takes a while to place an object because you have to work out an object's position.

once you learn 3dsmax is easy place objects, also there is some plugins that make things even easier.
3dsimed is great for visual/check errors but not for track editing, at least not when lot of work to do.

Simed wasn't free :) Blender could probably do that. Then use Simed to export to a gmt.

I have to ask.... why do you say it's not easy to place objects in 3DSimEd?

If you e.g. has loaded a track and want to add an object.
Load the gmt of the object, then "Edit" ->"Center Model", press Ctrl+C, go to the Screen where the track is loaded, move the mouse to the position where you want to place the object. On the bottom-line of 3DSimEd you see the coordinates where the mouse is positioned. When the Position matches, press Ctrl+V and enter the coordinates from the bottomline.
A little finetuning will have to be done, but that is no big deal.

And one hint: when you do such things, i would suggest to load the track by loading the scn file. If you do it that way, you can easily mark your new positioned object and copy/cut and paste it into a new window, because it's treated as a mesh and the with the scn file loaded meshes are loaded as objects.

Is 3d max is more easy also you can repeat object in random position of an specific area using the scatter.
