installed lite, then content over the top.

Start launcher,host......no game database to choose from?
click vehicles anyway, vehicles are there, config server but then get a warning message about no mod selected?

is the warning going to be a problem?

This is on a pc just for dedicated so rF2 is not activated.

You say you have content installed, but do you have a mod/vmod installed? The dedi will not let you host without creating and installing a vmod first.

Activation on a dedi isn't needed so that isn't a problem.

Or you can start a "dedicated server protoype" and choose your car(s) and track(s) without having to install a mod :)

Just like rF1 which is what I was doing but not on the proto.

On a side note I was unable to download the mod on the LAN?
Presuming it's a port issue which I'm checking over now.......
Never had issue like that before over LAN but I have a new FW in my router so may have missed something......

my experience with joining over the LAN is you have to highlight your server and then wait 20secs for it to timeout trying your public IP and then fall back to your private IP.

So just give it 20secs or so and then the join button should appear.

    Join button was there ok
It just would not let me download the small file that tells you what's in the 'mod'.
Set up server as I always have done and in the past I never had any joining issues.

Maybe I missed a file tweak somewhere..........?

I have not made a 'content' mod as yet, meaning that the mod/track are inside the package.

On my racing PC I delete mod/track etc from the packages folder and never had any problems, seems different running a dedi server?
In the past dedi was also run from racing PC,maybe this is why I had no problems?

Now the dedi server is on it's own PC

    Mod could not be installed.
    Mod download failed.

The package must be in the packages folder for it to be downloaded by the client. Sometimes the mod needs to have no spaces in it when being installed by the server.

^ what he said. But normally if the vmod isn't in the packages folder the join button will be disabled. The dedi only checks for the vmod when it first starts. Maybe the vmod was deleted from the packages folder AFTER the server was started. But it could also be the space problem. I haven't tried a space in a long time. I know that was once a bug and then fixed and then broken again. I just stopped using them completely. Hahaha

Also keep in mind that the vmod has to be in the default packages folder. There is a json setting to change the packages folder but it doesn't really work.

I haven't deleted the rfmod from the server pc,mod name is Meganes@LRPNO.
Server is showing up in MM so assuming ports are configured correctly and open.

Just going to try from racing pc,see if any different....

Same thing mod cannot be downloaded......

    Is it a LAN thing?
rF1 has this, change lookup to LAN and I think rF2 had it in the early days?

I will see if I can join.

Nope.. Looks like you don't have the ports open. This isn't responding:
    http://80.229.160.222:64297/SessionInfo/

Make sure you also open the ports in the windows firewall.

    Thanks for the quick test.
I have never opened specific ports in the firewall before and people could still join.
    Will check router ports..........
Made a rule in firewall,no joy so it must be the router............

You took it down before I could test but I see your vmod filename is Meganes@LRPNO.rfmod. My guess it that is the problem. Just rename the file to Meganes-LRPNO.rfmod. No need to recreate the vmod, simply renaming the file is enough. Then restart the server and try again.

    I will try that next,just made a new mod test1 and it worked,same mod/track.
I did 1 other thing different, will check if it's that or the @

    Seems it is the @
had to recreate the mod though, after I changed @ to a - it still popped up in game database as @

    Thanks Guys

just need to figure out how to run 2 rF2 servers now hehe

Okay.. good to know that simply changing the file name didn't fix the problem. I was under the impression the server took an inventory of the packages folder to locate a file the matched the sig and then the HTTP server knew to server that file. Anyways, glad you got it working. And now we know that spaces AND "@" are prohibited.

TBH I never even tried making a server with just the change of @ to a -.
Once I saw it still remained @ when trying to make the server in the game database option I just stopped.
I will try it later just for confirmation though.........

I did grab the Meganes@LRPNO.rfmod from the server pc,installed it into racing pc and all was fine.
So it must be a MM lookup problem with @ or something like that?
    Above my head that though.....

Thanks again for the help :)

Okay.. I just did a test of my own. I made a vmod with the name VEC@Test with the file name VEC@Test.rfmod. I put it in my packages folder and started the server and as expected it wouldn't download the vmod. But then renamed the file to VEC-Test.rfmod and then restarted my server and now I was able to join just fine. My guess is when you renamed your file you never restarted the server. The vmod file is only located when the server first starts. Renaming the file out from under the dedi will not be enough.

You can name a vmod how ever you want. Spaces, @#$%^& you name it. But it is mandatory that the file name itself doesn't contain any spaces or special characters.
