Also I find it amusing and both sad how someone ( Not Spin ! ) can rant on about the benefits of W8.1 + Uefi bios + SSD + ultra fast boot over MBR on all these uboobs clips. hehehe

Sure its awesome it saves a fair percentage of time.

Say you boot 10 times a day you may save 5 minutes. ?

Honestly most people here say it takes them a day or more rebuild a fresh OS , ( omg then thin your OS out , too much crap :) )

To Manually rebuild my perfect sim OS takes me at least a few hours

To rebuild ( restore ) my trueimage of the identical perfect sim OS takes 3 minutes. 60GB SSD with 19.2GB used.

Someone tells me there there is "significant" benefit and gains from FastBoot yes I agree. ( 3 / 4 times faster )

Trueimage my situation is 40 times faster ( 3 minutes vs 120 minutes )

Whether Spin does 2 OSes in 6 years is immaterial to my situation and should be treated as such not dismissed out of hand, especially from someone who has never tested the methods extensively.

Marc, do you have anything else in any of the other pic-e slots?

No, just a sound card in one of the PCI slots.

Very strange. Just to double check, is gpuz reporting pic-e 2.0 x16 @ x16 2.0 when the graphics card is in load?

No, as I said above, it is reporting PCI-E 3.0x16@x16 3.0 when under load, as it should. It drops down to @x16 2.0 and @x16 1.1 when not under load. It always says PCI-E 3.0x16 capable now that the mainboard glitch is cleared. It was fluctuating before due to whatever the glitch was.

I don't know what is strange--it's working now! The strangeness was before when it was not working as expected and thank you again for putting me on to GPU-Z to pin-down the source of the problem.

    hehe, no probs. ;)

Ok, so it's reported 3.0 x16 now...good. But are you still seeing no change in performance compared to your previous system?

Also, what was your previous system spec?

Nope, I'm not saying that. I have system restore disabled, lol :).

I replied a while ago (a few days? A week? Something like that) with regards to the 1600MHz-H97-chipset-RAM discussion. I basically said that I made a mistake and that you're correct.

Marc, are you embarrassed to tell me your previous system spec or something? I've asked you a few times now and no reply. :p

I am not embarrassed! Just didn't think it was relevant when the impact was close to zero for PCI-E. You tell me what performance increase I should have had going from:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale Dual-Core 3.0GHz to i7 Quad Core 4790 4.0GHz CPU
    Z68 to Z97 mainboard
    Same 12 GB of RAM
    Same GTX 770 video card

I think (hope to hell) the modest improvement was due to the new CPU and a wee bit from the board. Otherwise, we can conclude that rF2 is completely GPU blocked once you get above a certain CPU level (which I think others [you, too?] have suggested is the case).

ok, so for sure then you were using pci-e 2.0 on the older system. But before you said there was "zero improvement in performance" and now you've said there was a "modest improvement" in performance. Which is it and if any, how much are we talking? Because we all have different interpretations over how much we each consider to be "modest".

What was shown in 3-4 cases was a consistent 7-9% fps increase with the same clock speed going from pci-e 2.0 x16 to pci-e 3.0 x16 when using the rf2 live benchmark test. Have you done this test because if you haven't and you're using memory of experiences to quantify the level of improvement, i could very easily understand that a 7-9% improvement may seem even less without solid data to reflect upon.

Also, yes to the last part, cpu makes zero difference (unless you downclock your i7 below 2.0ghz for example) in rf2 (or at least regarding the rf2 benchmark test scenario without any other AI or online players on track).

Point being, there is no reason i can see or think of that should result in your performance improvement not being around 7-9%. But without having done a comparison of before and after with a well controlled experimental method (e.g. the rf2 live benchmark method), you can't really evaluate accurately if there was or was not an improvement in performance.

Furthermore, we're trying to help you figure out why you're getting no performance improvement when you 100% should be. And so if you're reporting incorrectly, we're just chasing our tails.

I will join in here when i get time to do some benchmark testing, looking forward to seeing if there are any difference myself?
not sure it will until the weekend, busy work life is full on right now, but I will get some PCI_E 2.0 to 3.0 x16 x16 cpu 40 lanes numbers up when i can, not forgotten guys, just damn busy :(
could do some gen 1.1 x16 x16 to if you want? as that's the same bandwidth as 2.0 x8 x8 i believe?

OK, I have been confusing the situation then. I assumed there would be at least some modest improvement from the CPU upgrade.

I would say the improvement was in the 7-9% range, but I was ascribing most or all of that to the CPU. If there is no improvement from CPU at all, then it must come from the GPU 2.0 to 3.0 upgrade.

Sorry Marc if i you thought i was coming across a little belligerent. Was not my intent. Only wish to help and i ask a lot of questions that may seem obvious and already answered but i only do so to double check things and you never know, things can be easily overlooked, no one is impervious to mistakes.

Don't know why you are apologizing? If what you are saying about CPU is true, then you were right all along.

I made a step up from a 26ook to a 3770k with faster 2400mhz ram instead of 1333mhz. I use a 7970 @1100mhz and i can´t notice any performance increase but that was clear for me before testing, because my GPU usage is @99-100% and that is a very clear sign that there is no bandwith problem, what can be accelereted with the new standart. And yes GPU-Z shows PCI E 3.0 while using the render screen.

Have you done a comparison with something like the rf2 live benchmark test method to know for certain there is not performance gain at all with the upgrade to pci-e 3.0 over 2.0. Since your card performs very much like the gtx 770 and the gtx 770 has a recorded 7-9% increase in fps with 3.0 vs 2.0 in the rf2 live benchmark test (3-4 users have done this and confirmed this), you should be experiencing a slight increase in performance. But since it's only 7-9%, perhaps this is something you won't notice when reflecting back on the experiential performance of your previous system in memory only. And if you had done the rf2 live benchmark test, before and after, you would then see the 7-9% average fps improvement clearly.

Well just tried some benchmarks and for some reason my cpu doesn't kick into turbo in pci_e 2.0? so my benches are worth nothing :(
will have to try and make sure my cpu stays at same during all test?
runs at 4.42Ghz while in 3.0, but drops to 3.92 in 2.0? so the results are not true comparisons , will try again another day

all I can say is with the profile I am using I get a 76-79% increase in fps with SLI :)

I don't get much changd with my CPU at 3.2 instead of 4.5 in rF2 (on single player benchmark) so I wouldn't sweat it :)

Ok well I have run it again and both cpu stay at 4.42Ghz now :) not sure what was happening before.

if anyone wants the SLI profile i have been using, tell me how to attach it, or where to upload it please?
