    Microsoft Details Direct3D 11.3 & 12 New Rendering Features
    -->
    http://anandtech.com/show/8544/microsoft-details-direct3d-113-12-new-features

Seems that even the brand new NVidia GTX 980 may not be able to fully take advantage of DX12 as DX12 is still being developed. It's too early to tell. On the other hand though, it's great that previous GPUs, even going as far back as the NVidia "Fermi" series (GTX 400 and 500), can still make partial use of DX12. Even though they will be gimped in terms of fully taking advantage of DX12, it's still great that they can at least partially take advantage of DX12.

The 3DMark test values on multithreading from comparing DX11 to DX12 looks very promising indeed (last video at about 54min)

I wish ISI will join AMD Mantle program for dev and learn a thing or 2 about low level api before Microsoft release DX12. Seems to me Mantle will be the subset of DirectX 12.

DX10 and 11 looked promising too, what they ever done for any " decent" sim ?

Will DX12 make physics and tyres work better ?
We are talking about a sim not some arcade crapola like Forza.

Who wants rF2 to look like that Forza eye candy ?
What does ? I do not see it ?

    Another pCARS/AC clone .........no thanks.

Well, potentially, it could make physics and tires work better. If more processing is offloaded to the GPU, that potentially frees up CPU cycles for physics. Also, a lot of (all of modern) GPUs can run compute shaders; which means that also, there's potential for some physics to be offloaded to the GPU, even. A lot of it depends on what the software developer chooses to do with it. In theory, >DirectX#, the more efficient it can run, or at least it's a bigger toolbox...in theory (or at least, it'll allow to better take advantage of the capabilities of modern GPUs).

Durge, DX12 seems to technically be very powerful. It's not about the graphics looking like Forza, skim through the vids :)

Totally true, please ISI delete real road, tire model, shadows, smoke, textures... we only need sounds.........

A+++ Graphics = Closer To Photo Realism = Full Immersion In Sim Racing

Anyone stating anything different in my opinion is blind. I feel graphics, sound, 3D/OR support/seat movement is all equal in producing the ultimate sim racing experience.

first of all, just bc graphics don't matter to you, doesnt mean they dont matter. they do help most with immersion & definitely are a sales factor.

but REGARDLESS, thats not what dx12 is about; it is a PERFORMANCE upgrade, that will yield especially great results with games that are both cpu & gpu intensive (ie SIMS). thats why itd be a very good thing for isi to overhaul the engine to dx11/12.

dont worry, IT WONT LOOK BETTER (much). but it should make the option of gaming at 120 fps with hi fidelity much more realistic for more people & minimize/eliminate dips below 60 fps those who dont have 120hz monitors or are ok with a lower refresh rate. thats a huge deal...

    Exactly, yusupov.

DX12 excites me much more for reducing driver overhead and freeing up CPU cycles, and also better multithreading (I think). It's the CPU and overall benefits of DX12 that excite me the most. It goes much, much further than just graphics.

The argument I've read continually about dx9 is that it doesn't add anything to the game that is substantially new or better. That argument is irrelevant and dx11 support is necessary for a different reason.

People BELIEVE dx11 adds something substantial to the game and are NOT buying rf2 because it is only dx9. Perception is more important than tech and dx9 is one of the reasons rf2 suffers from small grids and lagging numbers playing online.

    Its saddening rly.

Apart from that, some told me the UI sucks and downloading mods are a hassle. Pity
