Well I am building a new version hopefully with in 3 weeks... I am trying to install a "direct sensor" to get rid of the gears for the optical sensor. Next week is the deal breaker. If the code disc can be manufactured correctly then I can mod the optical sensor to be used as "direct sensor".
Short update: Most of the parts are manufactured now. So I should be able to assemble the wheel during next week. I will post pictures later...
Last week I managed to put together a new wheel but it did not work. Seems that working code disk will require a lot of cash So direct sensor will not be an option...

Powergrip GT3 toothed belt, 2pc. HTD sproket 15-3M-15, 2pc. HTD sproket 72-3M-15, Motor Dunkermotoren GR42x40, 10mm thick aluminium sheet for the front and back plate, 10mm thick aluminium sheet for the bearing housings, 45mm diameter aluminium shaft for the steering axle, 8mm diameter aluminium shaft for the sproket axles, 10mm diameter aluminium shaft for the front and back plate support, rack for the rotation limiter, rubber end stops for the rotation limiter and working electronics from Logitech G27/G25. Water jet and lathe for manufacturing the parts.
View attachment 12655 Here's a linearity test which shows that the wheel reaches 204 degrees of rotation with 100% strength. Somebody tested original G series wheel and it reached 160 degrees. Also the low end forces seems to be better.
