Would there be a problem if the surroundings were like pcars and the physics engine and real road were ISI? Or like Codie's? Does that make sense? Sort of cheat to make the surroundings look ok at a glance? It's still better than Geoff crammond looks...
Agreed. Visual immersion is all part of the simulation experience. Why have advanced driving physics and real road when many of these tracks look worse than rF1? Where's the progression? I swear many people would be happy with Rainbow Road style tracks as long as they had real road.
We are all correct. It is true that sim racers have different priorities. It is true that there are tradeoffs as Ethone mentions. It is true that, all things being equal, good graphics are good to have. It is true that there are trade-offs across tracks as well (fewer pretty tracks vs.. many less pretty tracks). It is true that the prettiest tracks show rf2 in the best light. Etc. Etc. Etc. These things are all true. My relative disinterest in graphics doesn't mean that others are wrong for which graphics is important. All it means is that there is demand for functionally well done tracks which may not be works of art. The good news is that there are also many people for which graphics is very important so for modders who have talent and put effort in there will be much appreciation. So this is all good news to me. I really don't see modders not aspiring to do their best work because I personally do not need graphical excellence. Much of the time, I expect that the primary reason someone creates a pretty track is not because of what Galaga wants, but what is important to the modder himself or in some cases what the modders' philosophy is regarding what is best for rf2, etc. This is all the way it should be. Up to the modder.
I really disagree here. I have a GT650m and still the newer tracks (and not so new, like Sebring) are visually stunning, and I can run rf2 at 50-60 fps just fine, with textures on full. This is on a laptop.
I don't like a lot of the converted tracks because they don't look right too. Real road is not just a physical thing, its a visual thing as well, the same as trees and buildings and country side are. If you don't feel you are there, you may as well be in a 2d game. that's the whole thing about simulations, they try to make you feel you are there. otherwise they're just another game.
Good for you you have an nVidia card... I've seen more stunnier tracks than the stunniest of stunniestestestest rF2 tracks in other racing titles... Which performs better on my PC, hence my previous comment of rF2-'bad' looking + bad performance.
yes, thx steve, not a bad find at all if only the long version was available and at this quality. and legal.....
