Hi, I've just come out of 2/3 races on the Touring server (results didn't show on liveracers) and they were all carnage. Seems to be a lot of what seems to an uninformed user like myself as lag, but doesn't intuitively make sense.

I say this as my connection is in the uk, pingtime of ~120ms to the ISI servers. The "lag" seems to be periodic, like every 5 seconds there is a BIG reshuffle of the cars in the pack, which causes monster crashes, even though no-one seems to have done anything wrong.

I have two questions which I'm wondering will help to debug this:
    1) is it a bandwidth issue
--> either in the .uk <-> .us link
--> or serverside at the ISI official servers
    2) is it a server issue
--> running out of cpu/ram/other high load issue

The liveracers issue doesn't bother me greatly, but the "lag" and stability of these official servers certainly seems to be lower than that I've seen elsewhere. Anyway, I don't want this to be hugely negative, the idea of the servers is great; just want to make the racing as fun and clean as possible to cut out the frustrations of safety car deployment and so on due to earth-shattering crashes.

    Any help appreciated,
    Cheers!

sounds like some packets get lost on the way to you, i dont have this issue, only always get lag in first corner of a race where about 15 people collides, that si too much for server i guess, but rest of the race is completelly lag free. If you are in UK and have BT as ISP, wether change to their OpticFibre broadband, or run away. I have changed and im happy since then

well, i only can give u a common set of advices to check that non of your programs are currently DLing any updates, neither windows, if there is somebody connected to your internet make sure they are not DLing, in rare occastions it also might be a virus that is sucking up your bandwidth, but that is unlikely

Appreciate the help, but many people were seeing what I was seeing, and I run very little on my windows machine, no updates etc or downloads active. Was looking to make sure it wasn't server side.

I've seen it on our rF2 server. I haven't found the cause... I'm at a major East Coast data centre and when it happens most or all drivers see it (we're in NA and Aus).

I've been watching the server's Performance Monitor when it happens... no spike in CPU use or other obvious performance issue is noticeable at the time.

Deak. -thanks , that was me on the server over LAN

Everything should work fine, I've checked my ports, put allowances in firewall exceptions -confirmed by windows on rf2 launch (home & public networks etc )

I don't know what else to do

No idea why it's greyed out ? I tested the vmod (it was registered too etc)

Puzzled , but big thanks for trying

I'm going to have the liveracers plugin removed, sorry folks. I did ask for a method for us to set update frequency first, but don't have the ability so we're just going to remove it until the option is available.

    Tracert to server

For the people that are having lag issues, If possible, would you post a trace route. That way we can see if there is a network issue outside North America.

    To run a trace route:http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/troubleshooter/traceroute.html

The command line and IP would be like the below you would enter.

    tracert 75.127.1.74

    Thanks

I take it that telstra is your provider..

I don't know if it would help your situation, you might want to send that to the support for your carrier...

    Just a thought..

BTW..nice Shepperd :) and nasty gash...

    Thanks for the post

What kind of pings you expecting from Oz to the east coast USA via Hong Kong?
