No, it can't be intentional. Screenshot functionality is meant for users and look how confused it made them :)
    It's something ISI have overlooked.

Ok, so it looks like while saving the picture from rF2, that white background is blended according to alpha channel or something. In this case there's nothing you can do, except for reporting it.

doublechecking, with the png being transparent, I have to create a layer and fill with black, then move underneath the original layer and flatten, I was mistaken about the white layer, sorry.

I'm certainly no PS expert but isn't the checked pattern indicating transparency? Have you tried creating a new layer, filling it black, then flattening the image? (can find all those in the menus :))

I'm probably what you'd call a PS noob... lol

I'll give it a shot and report back.

    EDIT:
Okay I got it working... kind of.
Opened the .png; added a new layer; filled the layer with black; moved it under the original; flattened.
Very, very dark image is the result.

Maybe it's easier to capture the screenshots in BMP format? You can change the format in PLR file.

Yeah I'm about ready to give up on this .png stuff... Too much trouble to go through, imo.

    1. Yes, checkered background indicates transparency. So png got exported with alpha channel.
    2. No, blending this over black background is a bad idea. Like I said before - what we want is to remove alpha channel, not let it influence image. PErforming blending operation with black background is nothing more like letting alpha channel cover your image with black. That's not what we want.

Solution is to remove alpha channel from image's layer. Perhaps it's in the context menu if you click on layer (that tiny image preview on the right side). If not, look for it in any menus related to layer.
Perhaps instead of alpha channel it's called transparency or mask. I don't use photoshop, but in GIPM it would be called alpha and you could remove it from layer.

Experimenting with downsampling. Left click on the image for 2880x1800 resolution.

You are right and I finally found the solution.
I chose layer mask, "from transparency" and revealed a new channel which I then deleted. Solved! ;)

On another note; some F2 action
