I'm sure this has been brought up before but Appletons says don't search. There is a large hole in the hardcore point to point dirt/rally racing sim racing genre that ISI can fill. That is my wish.
I agree this should be basic part of engine , menus , etc . Maybe rF3 Would mean a Dragstrip and Rally stage could be added by the developer, giving a walk up start for these types of modders, not to mention free-roam guys. Besides a 1/4 mile or RBR stage in a default sim would be a fantastic tool.
Actually we on to something here Jamie. lol ISI could make a new sim and forget about 3 sector timing. Develop fully working fictional dragstrip and car, 1 rally stage and Rally car and the tools to develop. All cars made in rF2 would be able to be tested and used within it. Howston vs Lola at the drags. hehehe
That's a great idea and they wouldn't have to waste anytime with AI. I honestly think ISI is missing out big time not doing a dirt surface.
ISI has stated int he past that there will be dirt at some point, but not for a while. rF1 had dirt, it stands to reason rF2 will also. Point-to-point timing will come too. Each build adds another promised feature- slowly this thing is coming together. Emphasis on SLOW
Even a separate Dirt and Drag core to get them both more precise I would pay for each ? Well I would love to hear the cons on this one from experts. " What no tracks ? " p Yeah but the possibilities
I don't see the need for a separate core. Drag (see wish list post) and dirt ovals seem to work fairly well overall. Point to point works in rF1 but its more that I had to trick the game into thinking it ran a full 2 laps around a track. I see for drag/rally/oval once the rules packages are put in place, that's when these mods will really shine. Till then, there is nothing holding anyone back from racing dirt in rF2 just like in rF1 other than content.
With a different engine could be more precise for a rally car, and as I said there would be no 3 sector timing, so if they (ISI) developed point to point it would work 101%. The Drag engine would be based on nothing but 1/4 mile and shorter and would allow driving from garage, burnouts and staging and with prompts from your pitcrew. Then everything modded for each would have proper development tools for their specific needs. Then there is the latitude in physics/settings a engine needs to run across all cars and terrain surely this is a impediment to getting one more correct then the other ? Multi Engined Sim .......... then we would have ISI "Driver" the True Simulation, V8 Real road p , 4 men a car MP teams with uzis against the cops and gangs on massive maps. aka NFS Hardcore. ....Pick your wheelman wisely......... And I could fly my helicopter hehehe Better idea then building spaceships Tim. hehehe Before you mention RBR it had a solid rear axle. lol
Get sprint car and midget sanctions from USAC and World of Outlaws, Latemodel from Lucas Oil and WOO, Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks from IMCA or UMP. I'll bet all these sanctioning bodies would endorse a car or two as official dirt sim for exposure! And please do it before Iracing does!
