Hi guys. I have been hunting for a while but can not a specific answer. I am using a grass.dds file from an original track and desaturated it a little. When I go to save using the .dds plugin I am saving the image in the wrong form. The grass is sparkly and when you stop at look at it, it gives the impression of a wave going away from you. The original file is nice and uniform and not sparkly. What is the correct setting to save so it is the same as the original? Hope someone can help, sorry for the hassle. Mike
Probably it's a DTX3 or 5, depends on the track. BTW, I suggest you to use the Windows Texture Viewer so you can inspect/open a .dds and check the format used by the file.
Perhaps it isn't the texture causing the effects you describe but instead how it is mapped/tiled to the mesh
It is the GRASS_NATURAL.dds from Silverstone. I am using it in the Lakeside track, but all are too dark. I lighten in PS, but when I save it is smaller and the sparkly/walking effect comes into play. All I want to do is change the colour to be more like the real grass. View attachment 9318
This way is almost impossible to help you. Which shader are you using? Are you using the entire terrain texture set and how? Are you painting alpha values into vertex and/or using vertex colors? This grass texture is not intended to be used as a simple T1 but it's part of the Silverstone terrain artwork pack, so it is important to understand how you're using it.
