"Whilst we would love to release the viewer app, the costs and time to get the app out to the larger sim racing community mean that we need to invest a considerable amount of our business where there could be no return. We are not trying to make money on this, we just want to make sure we don't jeopardise our real world racing team by trying to support the viewer when we have no resource."

@64r, just a question, have you guys considered crowd funding? That would basically solve all of your problems I think. If it is successful, you gain back what you would spend to release it. If unsuccessful, then you just don't convert it. Maybe you could even release for free! :p

The OP is proposing a way to replace a tool that is being used illegally. It's going to take a little money to properly support it. Big deal.

It's not a mandatory part of the sim, you're not forced to use it. If you're really upset about the reality of paying for the tools you use then I'm sure the old way of viewing telemetry will be there for you to use...

This is a hobby that many of us throw a lot of money at (triple monitors, beastly video cards, race seats, high end wheels, custom displays, button boxes, etc.). If you can't deal with $10 or $20 for a tool that will probably improve your lap times more than some pieces of PC hardware that cost 10-20x as much then don't buy it. Simple.

Tools like Motec prove their worth when practice time is limited and you have an engineer who knows what to look for, knows the track, the car, and has some idea of what to benchmark results against. Fans of motorsport often hear that a driver will say they struggled with the setup all week. Especially when they are using a new car or visiting a new track.

My question is how would data analysis within a sim help shorten the manual process of making adjustments then recording speed and lap time? Is there a diff tool included that I can overlay multiple lap data to compare the changes from one setup/lap vs another? Maybe provide some screenshots of the tool and an example of where to apply setup changes based on data points. If it will help me get an ideal setup faster I'd be interested.

We as the simracing community should foremost strive for, and encourage, tools/mods that are legal, whether if it is pay- or freeware.
When participating in a league that you and your team want to be serious about and spend as much time as you can on improving your performance against others then this sort of tool is priceless(pun?)!

I would be willing to pay for it. :)

Is it just me or has the whole world become socialist? There is absolutely nothing wrong with working hard on something and wanting compensation. I assume you have a job right, how would you like it if your boss said, "everyone is trying to make money and it is so annoying. I don't think I am going to pay you anymore"? Do people really think writing software is easy and should all be free?

Not everything in life is free. Get over it. If you don't think this software is worth the money then DON'T BUY IT. But don't come here and rant about how you are annoyed that someone wants to make money.

On another thought, if you don't value money, why don't you pass what you have to me. I would gladly accept it. :p

"Worser and worser" hahaha. Not only did you invent a word there, it is grammatically wrong.

I think that having an appropriately available analysis tool that basically improves upon what is currently available, and tailored to sim racing, would be a good thing. It would be nice of it worked with multiple sims. I would prefer a one time purchase. You could add the option to purchase training as a seperate option for those that require help. Hopefully an intuitively designed software would help to minimize training needs for those familiar with existing tools.

As an old GPLer all I ever used was Replay Analyzer. I'm trying to surmise what all data is output by these fancy aids like i2 Pro and motec. I'm guessing its a lot more data than I'd even know what to do with. And in real-time? I'd crash trying to digest it! But if these aids can at least show me where I'm fast and where I'm slow after I've parked the car (like Replay Analyzer) and compare laps (vs myself and/or anybody who's lap I recorded) then I'd pay $10 or $20 for it. I dearly love all the legal freebies that are so graciously offered by so many dedicated and fanatical sim racers/developers/modders but for sure I'll pay what I think is a fair price when asked to.

Edit: will anything out there show me the lap time comparisons I'd like to see?

I would be willing to pay not more then ten bucks, if I had the slightest idea of what you guys are talking about. Sorry, but I never used any kind of telemetry software and I wouldn't know how or what for.
