No matter what I do off the mark the AI leaves me for dead , I can be off pole and will be last into the first corner , it seems they accelerate the first 100 yds twice as fast as I can , so whats the best method for fast starts ? Cheers
I leave in neutral, turn auto clutch off, push clutch in a bit, full throttle and shift to first when lights go out. Thats in megane, in faster cars maybe not full throttle.
I don't like to brag, but I always have good starts and I will tell you why; First of all; don't make the first gear to long because the revs might go down to low. Second; almost full throttle (depends on car) and keep it there, when you have to move, just ram it into gear; no clutch. (might need some practice for each car) Third; don't look at the lights! Look at your display; when time starts counting, GO! You won't have a false start, but when others look at the lights or are not awake; it surely seems that way. (AI won't nag ) You get something like this: (Look at the black car on P3, not a false start!!) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13313246/IMG_2541.MOV
They need to fix that display countdown thing, can't be having grid starts where its better not to look at the lights.
What an incredible start! But your camera's upside down arrrghhh I'm going to have to try your method. I normally run with everything off, so I never even tought of looking at the time. Some tracks it can be hard to see the lights if you're far back in the field. Looking at the time seems like it'd fix that
Upside down? Now you mention it; I heard that before.......don't know how to fix that though. (and don't see it on my machine) Anyway, you get the idea
Don't give full throttle, keep it right around red line and when the lights go out, use your clutch slip to keep the revs near that red line. Every car is different though.
Agreed, that's what I do as well! Specially true with the skip barber... if you dont slip clutch, you won't move...
Depending on the car but best if seen. 1 Set handbrake to 100%, 2 use clutch 3 slip clutch till you feel the hand brake load up, 4 release handbrake and drive. Not easy to perfect but is most recomended
OH and if server allows set traction control to a button and turn it off once going as it will make you slower in the long run, Remember 'NO WHEEL SPIN', apply smooth power
Except you can't always rely on the counter, at least not online. I've been on pole a few times at Palm Beach and have been screwed over a couple of times by the counter not acting as it should straight away.
