Tried Brabhams at Sebring and wow! Looks really good But strange how it can be so different from ISI tracks. So if ISI adjust spray so it looks like this, then Sebring will have almost none spray? Oh how I really miss raindrops! Would be so awesome to have raindrops on the little windscreen on Brabham, and the glasses of course! And maybe they could add raindrops to the vehicle too? Is that possible? Somehow it should be possible to make the vehicle look wet however...
Here is a short video. First light rain, slightly drying track. Then heavy rain. This one is even better, no spray in cockpit. It's at Mid Ohio but it's the same like on Sebring. Note how sometimes the view gets blurry through the spray and not the lens.
Can you make your mind up? The .tdf file is absolutely a factor in this, and for sure track makers could tweak it to make the spray a bit better. But then next build might treat the spray differently and then they need tweaking again. And although the spray is the most obvious 'feature' of build 198, and is prompting huge amounts of discussion, it really looks like something already there's just been switched on. Is rF2 going to keep using this 'rattatat-texturing' out the back of cars to simulate spray? I hope not, and I very much doubt it. Same for dust/grass etc, which are just using the same "let's hammer out a million copies of this texture so at some angles it looks like a fairly believable cloud" method... eventually it has to change to a more realistic system, which I'm sure the graphics experts (including a couple on here) are already aware of.
The rain in that game looks beautiful, looks like real water, but sorry not even close to realistic. Real life has about 50 times more visibility loss than you get in codemasters f1 games, or pretty much any other game or sim. RFactor 2 is probably the first company in history that is really trying to get a proper representation of just how absolutely horrible and deadly real life rain spray can be to visibility.

Is there any chance that we might see volumetric spray in rF2 someday? It seems silly that we haven't gotten to that point yet.
I´am really interested which parameters are necessary to calculate proper spray (volumetric spray). My guess: 1. Track surface and the amount of water 2. Tyres and speed oft the car 3. Wind and aerodynamics 4 ... 5 ... But maybe it´s too fps hungry an too complex calculating all this parameters? What do you think?
I think Dirt3 has pretty good weather effects and graphics overall, would be great to have these graphics with ISI physics. It runs great and looks pretty stunning at 2560x1440 all maxed out never having never dropped of my 60p v-sync on my system.
Agree... The pulsating texture bursts look horrible, and I thought iRacing had the worst so far. Regular dust clouds even i rfactor looks better than this. A proper shader of some kind would be the way to go...
And to avoid the silly "rain in the tintop", there should be a GMT 'flag' for internal/external so the engine would know wether to render weather on top of GMT or the oher way around. Much like the 'decal' flag.
Think the Dirt 3 looks pretty nice, got happy memories of the Codies Colin McRae series.. Olex - great vid of the Porsche at LeMans.. those guys have got kahunas like melons
