Just got a 7950, my goal is 1150 - 1200 core (probably will need 1.21v-1.26v). I am wondering what overclock (core/memory/voltage) you guys have the card successfully at. Info on the model/cooler/temps would be nice too....

    MSI 7950 Twin Frozr III....

Only had it two weeks so not done any serious overclocking but currently I have it at 1130 on the core. I got a crash at 1150. This is on stock voltage. I might bump the voltage a little to see if I can get to 1200.

    Not done the memory yet.

Temps are in the low 60's when using Heaven.

I've a vapor x 7950, I can use it daily 1100 gpu/ 1500 ram with a few increase of voltage, I tried it even to 1200 gpu\1600 ram, but is not stable, even increasing hardly voltage.
Depend on the model, mine don't go over 1150 with a stable result, but Msi model can reach even above 1300 gpu.
But even near 1100 you are much faster than 7970 Ghz Edition, near a 680 stock, not bad for 250 euros card..

Yeah, I was going to get a 7970 but the 7950 was £100 cheaper and can achieve similar performance.

I was stunned to discover how many HD7950's can max out the memory speed in CCC. 1575 is quite normal.

I seem to lose stability at 1105mhz GPU. Surprisingly voltage increases seem to do nothing for OC or stability besides raising temps - so it is default.

Bottom of the range Powercolor HD7950 Boost V2 (the one with the good cooler).

Thanks guys, for the ones using 1100+ w/stock voltage, I'm assuming your cards have the newer bios with the boost feature built in, which I believe brings your vcore to around 1.2v-1.25v on load?

Yes, mine (vapor x) has boost bios, but when it's on the card reach 950 gpu, with no change in voltage, it can work stable with stock voltage up to 1050 +\- gpu, than you'll have to increase voltage, but more than 1,24\25 many time is useless because the card reach the limit in gnu mhz..

    mine is 7970 but reach 1225 core / 1625 memory, with 1,167 V Stock volts are 1,113....

for a 7950 to have same performance as 7970 needs to be 150 mhz more at stocks and with overclock it needs 150+x mhz...
    example a 1000 ghz 7970 needs a 7950 to a 1150mhz
    a 7970 1200 mhz needs a 7950 at 1400 mhz to nearly equal performance..

Is there a need to oclock the 7950?
I have it 1920x1200 maxed with 4xAA, I tried 6xAA and it didn't look any better so left it at 4x.
I've got the Vapour X, but I bought it for the cooler, not the oclocking potential.

If the maximum graphic quality don't disturb the performance then definitely not. Maybe only if you for example have 120hz Monitor and you are just a little on short to have steady 120 fps for fluid experience with preferable graphic configuration. Overclock is only worth it, if you go to maximum. But then, you need good cooling system. Nowadays this overclocking things is more or less just commercials. You get very little from it in real observation specially in graphic sense. Even computing software have more from it.

Yes, I've got a boost edition. The Vcore in Afterburner says 1.185 (I think) but I'm guessing it bumps up when boost kicks in. I haven't checked that yet.

I oclocked my old 4850 and it overheated....never bothered to oclock the 6850, and other than as a test, have no desire to oclock the 7950.
It's interesting with some websites focusing on the new frame times as well as frames/second, cause everytime I install a more powerful AMD GPU, it's as smooth as silk.

EDIT.....WRT to cooling, the GPU/CPU coolers are the no1 factor in temps, as I had a HAF with 4 huge fans, but it couldn't cool the 4850.
Now I've got a Antec 1100 with just 3 fans and neither my CPU or GPU get remotely hot.

I have oclocked my HD7950 Flex edition without any need to increase the Voltage!

There's some crazy overclocking headroom in my CCC, 1200/1575.....is everyone's the same?

CCC doesn't mean anything, I can edit files that allow CCC to allow 16, even 1800 MHz core, it's just a number they choose, don worry about that.

Yes overclocking makes a big difference, especially with 79xx cards. Probably 78xx too. I see 7950s with gtx 660ti speeds sometimes slower, overclocked it can surpass gtx 670s. AMD seems to have purposely left the clocks lower on the card in order to give us big overclocking room.

You see people going from like 48 fps to like 65, real big gains with this series.

There is a 2 part bios upgrade for my card. One for new bios (needed to use the second part), and second part which enables the boost feature.

At the moment with my old original bios I can't even get 1000 mhz core on stock voltage because the stock voltage even on load is like I think 0.9x or low 1.0x v, even with 20% powertune, lol horrible stock voltage.

I'm assuming this new 2 part bios (released this year/2013), will fix all this....

I got 880 on the Unigine Heaven benchmark at 1080p extreme preset....I did have a few programs open in the background but they're not demanding, plus I did it oclocked to 1050/1400.
I think mem could go to 1500, but core don't like 1100.

Volts :) bring it to 1.26 I'm sure you'll be able to get over 1100 maybe close to 12
