Hi, I had a functioning 136 and tried the manual update to 156. Now the game launchs but theres no on track graphics, in car or replays. At first I was able to drive the car and hear the sounds, just didnt get the grapghics, now im getting a CTD as soon as I click race. Any tips? Already verified install Thnks
136--->156 may bring to incompatibily issues. I suggest to uninstall your current instance, also removing the Data folders (no need to trash in the bin the contents in Packages folder) and reinstall a fresh 156 http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/rf2dl/
Thanx Max, that was I thought. Sadly it didnt work. Ive uninstalled it using win7 control pannel and installed the new 156 version. Now I can see the other cars at replay screen before I enter the track, but as soon I click race i get a CTD. What surprised me is that even i didnt move the packages foler back into the rF2 folder, or installed any car or track, they were available for selection in game and were listed installed at mod manager. I wonder if I had to manually clean anything after windows uninstall?
Yes, the uninstaller doesnt uninstall the Data folders, so deleting them manually is the best way to restore a "rF2 clean" status in you PC. In the Data folders (folders placed in the second path of the installer) there are also Packages and UserData. Packages stores the frmod and rfcmp ... deleting those files forces you to download them again, so save them in a temp folder. UserData folder contains the Player ... a fresh player may be a good thing, but you have to remap the wheel buttons, so i advice you to delete the old player only if you notice bugs or weirdnesses. In short 1) move in a temp folder the contents of the Packages folder and the player 2) uninstall rF2 from the uninstaller in the main rF2 folder 3) delete the Data folders 4) if you have a trusty registry cleaner, a pass can be a good idea 5) install 156 Full, possibly in a new folder (for instance i name folders following the public builds, my 156 is in rF2 Public 12 because 156 is the 12th public build 6) place in Packages the rfmod and rfcmp files 7) place in UserData the player So doing you have a fresh and clean status (and if something doesnt look right, try for first deleting the player).
Well, its been a PITA. After 5 tries I kind of got it working. I did as you said but the registry thing, I dont have a registry software, if you have one automatic I would appreciate. Well, mod manager didnt like the directory name change, and when I tried to change to the new one it crashed. So I uninstalled once again and reinstalled with the old name. Installed the 60's and it worked. Copied the old package folder and mod manager refused to open. Copied files one by one and installed them, mod manager didnt seem to care. When I got everything installed and tried to get on track again, CTD. Im tired and out of ideas. Maybe theres one log or anything I can upload and someone try to find the problem...
CCleaner is good and free http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/features http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download The trace is available going in the launcher--->Advanced tab and typing trace=5 in the single player CLI ... you can have a trace in multiplayer too, with the same command line. Then click on Save Parameters button. Trace command line will create a trace.txt file in UserData/Log folder but i am not able to understand it. If you post the log here may be someone more skilled than me can help you.
