Always made me laugh that on computers memory, CPUs and bus speeds were always 667 not 666

 

Hmm... it's 667 because it's rounded to a whole number. Rounding 666.666 to 666 would be a bit strange.

 

From what I've read it should actually be rounded up to 666 but due to marketing fears they added an extra MHz

 

What grade of arithmetic did you complete? 2/3 is .666... That rounds up to .67 or .667 or .6667 etc. The speed was closer to 667 than 666 so that's why it was labelled as such. Did they call the 333's 332 or 334?

And sorry, I shouldn't have exacerbated this by replying to a completely ridiculous post, but sometimes I just shake my head and can't stop myself.

 

There are different ways to round a number actually but the most commonly used is round to nearest.

 

What grade of English did you complete? that you're to stupid to understand "From what I've read" , Thought this was just a light hearted topic didn't think people would start get insulting and anal about it .

 

FWIW I think image/marketing does have something to do with it. Everyone was happy to round down to 66, 166, but at 666 said na, might go to 667...

 

This makes me lol every time I see it. Just never gets old.
