Hi, Before I waste anyone's time the secondary drive was Vista My C drive is a Windows 8 SSD which I can install rF2 on np, but I'm trying to save space. However I install rF2 on the D drive I always get "error creating directory from mod file D:\...." when installing mods. I've tried putting the Data with the Core in a Data folder ...\rFactor2\Data\... I also tried to set the Data to install to MY Documents but it doesn't appear anywhere. (Vista account issue?) I've also avoided program files and installed to D:\rFactor2... but to no avail. I've tried manually copying over the data folder to various places too. Appreciate any help
Have you changed your data path under the advanced tab? Just throwing ideas out there as I'm not really sure how to help you.
Maybe starting the installer (or modmanager or rfactor) as administrator can solve this issue -> right-click on appropriate file and choose "Start as Administrator"
I have installed it in D: with no problems at all. Before I had w7 I had XP and the game was in E or F (I don't remember) without issues as well. I don't remember what version was the last I installed, mybe 2 versions ago or the one before the current. New bug with the last version?
His post is a bit confusing. The title says he can't install rF2 but in his post he says he can't the install mods.
Wow, Thanks for the replies. 1) I have tried changing to various data paths under the file tab. (it's not an advanced tab?) 2) Installing on 1, single boot PC. 3) I am trying to get the install working on an old Vista (data drive) connected to my Win 8 OS (SSD). 4) Have tried running as admin. 5) I will try installing an older version. 6) Sorry my post title is confusing. I can install np, but can't install mods.
Dude I Have All Me Games On Hard Drive D. and all worcks cool, D drive good choose because if you go reinstal windows and all your games you have on hard drive C all games gone so D is good choose
Guys i dont understand reason why you cant instal games on hard drive D. if you get some problmes wit D format hard drive after that instal games
ika may have a valid point. If d: is an old drive, maybe it keeps trying to put mods in a corrupt sector on the drive. If D: can be reformatted, dos will mark bad sectors and install will bypass those.
Jim i dont think and i not sure say thes 100% but what is true if hard drive gives same errors best do format and after that check all ok or no
There is a program called HDD regenerator that can do miracles to hard drives (almost). Can you make those directories manually or only fail within the game?
There is a command (from the dos prompt) to scandisk or checkdisk, that will find bad sectors and give advise about bad sectors. It's been ages since I did that, so I don't remember the correct command. Check out this link, it will tell you how to use it. (win7) http://www.ehow.com/how_6899310_run-chkdsk-windows-7.html this is link for Win8 http://windows8forums.com/windows-8-tutorials-training/7139-improved-chkdsk-utility-windows-8-w-tutorial.html
Thanks for the tips everyone. I tried an older build with the same result. The drive is over 5 years old and could well have bad sectors. I'm not familiar with how a redundant os works on a data drive but I wouldn't be surprised if vista is the cause. I'm going to savour deleting it forever anyway
Sometimes when you bring an old NTFS drive into a new system you will have permission issues because NTFS sets permissions by user or group via a unique code (SID). Your new OS looks at that drive, doesn't have a record of the SIDs attached to filesystem objects and figures it has limited permissions. I had one drive from a previous PC that did that when I built a new system. Google NTFS security and "taking ownership" and you'll find guides on how to proceed. The easiest way to proceed if the data on that drive is not important would be a complete reformat (for example, through diskmgmt.msc).
Formatted the secondary HDD (which was healthy) and packages installed fine. Me thinks it was the dreaded vista. Thanks for all the help
