    SUMMARY

I haven't had any problems with rFactor2 so far and it even worked nicely the day before the update. However, after I had installed the 107 update the sound is rattling and it sounds a bit scratchy, to be honest. It's literally impossible to play the game so I tried to solve the issue. First things first, the hardware I'm using.

    Asus P8Z77-V Pro
    I7-3770
    16GB Ram
    GTX680
    Razer Carcharias headset
    LG 42LG5000 TV
    Logitech Z313 2+1 speaker system
    Windows 7 Professional x64
rFactor2 sound settings as pictured here
DXDiag to be found here due to size limitation for attachments

    VERSION

    rFactor2 beta 107

    REPRODUCTION STEPS

    1. Race vs. AI (didn't test multiplayer)
    2. Whilst being surrounded by lots of other cars the described issue occurs
=> Issue doesn't occur if there are only 4 cars or less around the player

    TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS

Normally it's set up as follows:

    1) GTX 680 -> HDMI cable -> LG 42LG5000 TV (built in speakers disabled) -> Logitech Z313 2+1 speaker system connected to audio out of said TV
=> sound is rattling and scratchy (rFactor 2 only, all the other games & movies didn't cause any trouble)

I thought it might be the speaker set, so I tried the following:

    2) GTX 680 -> HDMI cable -> LG 42LG5000 TV (built in speakers disabled) -> Razer Carcharias headset connected to audio out of said TV
=> sound is rattling and scratchy (rFactor 2 only, all the other games & movies didn't cause any trouble)

    3) GTX 680 -> HDMI cable -> LG 42LG5000 TV (built in speakers enabled)
=> sound is rattling and scratchy (rFactor 2 only, all the other games & movies didn't cause any trouble)

So I knew it's likely not the speaker set that's at fault. Let's take a different approach:

    4) GTX 680 -> HDMI cable -> LG 42LG5000 TV -> Logitech Z313 2+1 speaker system connected to my PC directly (so that no sound is being sent through the HDMI cable)
=> working perfectly fine (all games & movies)

    5) GTX 680 -> HDMI cable -> LG 42LG5000 TV -> Razer Carcharias headset connected to my PC directly (so that no sound is being sent through the HDMI cable)
=> working perfectly fine (all games & movies)

Games used in each and every step:

    - rFactor2
    - Game Stock Car 2012
    - Race 07
    - F1 2011

I've also tried the following movies (picked action scenes with lots of bass; BluRay -> PS3 connected to TV through HDMI):

    - Transformers 3
    - Face/Off
    - Taken / 96 Hours

    Conclusion

rFactor2 unlearned how to properly use HDMI sound. ;) No, seriously: it's odd because this shouldn't have changed because of the game having received an update. Maybe it's merely a bug in the sound code?

I'd be happy to hear if anyone else is experiencing the same / related issues and maybe someone from ISI helping me out, if possible at all. :)

Oh, I had the wrong tab open when I created the thread. Could someone please move the thread to the appropriate forum?

    Cheers and sorry. :)

Will do. I've always had it at around 60% and it's only down to 30% on the shot because I tried to fix the issue by doing so. I'll give it a shot tonight. :)

Did that get rid of this on your installation?

Sorry, I just haven't had any time to play yesterday. Anyway, setting the opponent sound ratio to 15 (I could only pick 14 & 16, so I picked 14) didn't solve it. I also tried to let rFactor2 use the "Windows Settings" instead of "Stereo Speaker" - to no avail. Maybe it's because the speaker set has a subwoofer and rFactor2 can't use it properly?

Get rid of what? If you're talking about the issue: no. Else I'm not sure I can follow you. :)

No, that didn't help much. Anything else I could do?

I know it was also found in testing, I assume the devs are replicating it and having to fix on our end...

The only other thing I would try, is playing with the sound accel in dxdiag. I can't replicate the issue myself to test if thta makes a difference though.
