Thank you! I didn't know why Brianza didn't appear in my mod manager, now I have it installed ;)

    Nice guide :)

I would just add if you are short on SSD space you can archive PACKAGES anywhere.

    I use Drive:\SIM PATCHES\RFACTOR2\PACKAGES
Unused Packages I add to Drive:\SIM PATCHES\RFACTOR2\PACKAGES OTHER

It saves me 5.1GB SSD space and I see that expanding rapidly. :)

If you do a fresh drive, partition or rF2 install you will want to move PACKAGES to a temp
folder, so you may as well just use the 2 archives for everything. ;)

I also make a second backup of both PACKAGES folder on external archives for safety.

Edit: Leave a empty Packages folder in the default path ( \rFactor2\Data\Packages\ ) because it will still add server_details.json and any GET MOD package to the default folder even though your Set Mods Path is elsewhere.

After I use GET MOD I uninstall the mod in manager, move the package to my archive then re-install.

    Thank you :)

I was confused by a lot of simmers aversion to the system frankly.
I can understand modders and painters arguements though.

From day one I liked it.

Download and One click install at worst, GET MOD at best.
I can put Packages anywhere, one folder.
I feel safe for the first time any sim deleting old versions of 3rd party mods and tracks.
No chance of deleting, dragging or dropping files and folders either, as most of us know it can be one file. :)

Hopefully ISI will approve all mods to be allowed on GET MOD and Ban the Rest from the ISI Server.

If people can afford Servers I see no reason why they should be allowed to clog up the ISI Server with no permission content.

This could bring further benefit to the community by weeding out no permission/ no copyright mods by making them less appealing to publish as anyone like me will never see them.

decided to go for a clean reinstallation of the game due to a few performance issues since build 101. On the guide it says to back up the .rFactor2 file which contains credentials, which should be located here: C:\Users\YOUR PROFILE\AppData\Roaming\

However, I cannot find an AppData file in my user, I have search everywhere and cannot find the .rFactor2 folder, other than the rFactor2 folder in D: where the packages folder is located. Can anyone recommend where else I may find my credentials before I uninstall?

I did some clean installs, just uninstall from control panel, deleted rfactor folder from D:/Program files (X86) as well, didnt touch anything else, rebooted, reinstalled and everything was ok.

so there are no issues with reactivation of purchase or anything upon installation?

Great guide by the way, very useful to have everything in one place for quick reference

not as far as I know, I did the thing more than once.

    Hi Jimi,

The .rFactor is a folder, not a file.

Yeah, I ment .rFactor, lol. This is really strange, When i search my C: Drive for .rFactor I found it under the correct location as described in the guide, but when I manually go through the folders I have nothing in that location for App Data.

Anyway, I appear to have found the folder now, through a very roundabout way, but thats for the support and speedy responses!

    :)

You have to enable show hidden folders and files. When you open your drive, under your organise tab select folder and search options and then select view. From there double click on files and folders if its not already open and then double click on hidden files and folders and choose show hidden folders, files and drives.

Thanks for this guod, nice you did that and it's a good manual on how to.
Shame it had to come from the community again and not from ISI; as I see the topics with questions about this that are dozens (50, maybe 60?)......one should expect ISI to do something about that as it is not the easiest thing.

That's not exactly true. ISI has had an installation guide up since January.

    http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/first-time-install/

There are also many step-by-step youtube guides from ISI about installing vmods, using the "get mod" feature, etc...
