Racing against the AI isn't very realistic as they are all bunched nose to tail for the whole race. Is there any way to have various skill levels for the different drivers?
I would have to disagree I often find large gaps between 16th and 1st, but Im using 85% difficulty, perhaps you're using a higher difficulty and what you say is true there? But I have a "solution" for you! give the AI different vehicles, that should really break them up, I mean it's a world of difference in speed between a F1 and F3 car. That said I really don't like the AI either, I can't find a sweet spot where they race clean but aggressive, they either try and take the gap by all means or they give it up for me every time. Also I'd looove it if they had some sort of memory, like if I bash into one of them I want him to be pissed off and coming after me.. but this is probably very hard and unneccesary because we race online mostly after all don't we?
I only drive the 60's F1 cars but the AI's are not all bunched nose to tail for the whole race, not at all. But they are super aggressive and dumb. Me and my brother race LAN with AI's and we need 20 race restart sometimes just because they crash us at the first bend. It's worse on some tracks and better on others. I would prefer humans before AI's but there are no populated servers running the (for me) only interesting mod, 60's F1 or F2.
The only time i find this is with modded tracks that have still yet to be tweaked by the modder or group. Using the official ISI tracks i find the AI to be some of the most racey around. They make mistakes, defend their positions very well. Skippy at Monaco inpaticular they fight hard
I suspect the .rcd files aren't very randomized when it comes to the driver ability. Being that it's an ISI mod in a Beta build, I'd consider the current .rcd files as "placeholders". I'm sure you can unpack them and modify yourself to your liking.
I found that in formula ISI the cars were too fast for me and the AI cars time spread was too close. Nicer to have the slowest at about 5-7% slower as in real life. Then I can keep with the slower guys until I refine my setup and skills to improve rather than being last until I improve. I found that playing with the AI settings in the Userdata>player>player.plr file helped a lot. Got a more realistic spread of times with Formula ISI. Fast was still almost as fast but slower was an HRTesque 7% or so slower, and the AI make a few mistakes, which I think is more realistic. This was in practice sessions, and needs more testing. Also I'd be interested if anyone else has got any tips. All settings with AI difficulty set at 100% in game. AI Brake_Power Usage="0.94000" // Fraction of theoretical brake power that AI attempt to use (can be overrode in HDV) AI Brake_Grip Usage="0.95250" // Fraction of theoretical brake grip that AI attempt to use (can be overrode in HDV) AI Corner_Grip Usage="0.95000" // Fraction of theoretical cornering grip that AI attempt to use (can be overrode in HDV) AI Mistakes="0.20000" // a range of (intentional) AI mistakes from 0.0 (none) to 1.0 (sometimes).
try playing with this setting in the PLR file: AI Limiter="1.00000" // Range: 0.0 (no limiting) - 1.0 (limiting used to make racing closer but also make more driver differences on flat-out tracks)
