Hi, I've been liking the new GT cars quite a lot, the only thing that bugs me about it is the engine sound. Real GT-R Ingame It's not bad per se, the growl from the real GT-R is definately there. However, I feel that at higher revs, the sound loses its punch, almost like if the volume gets lowered towards gear limiter. The real engine also has that typical angry mechanical sound, while the sounds ingame sound digital and compressed. There's no sense of progression through the revs. It's quite hard to explain sounds, but I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say.
I agree. Exterior sounds for rF2's GTR are not so bad it can sound quite brutal at times but cockpit is just boring IMO to the point i don't really drive it much. I think ISI should really work on sounds tbh. I would take higher fidelity sounds over eye candy everytime
Sound is defiately one of the weaker sections in rF2. Most enginesounds are not rough enough, to flat, lack of brutality, F.R. 3.5 cars are a good example. However GT-R sounds are one of the better, volume gets a little bit down near the limiter, misleads to early upshifting. Reverb seems to work only at short distances. Improvements on sound would definately be a great improvement on immersion, mostly underestimated.
I don't get you people! Seriously, the virtual GT-R sounds EXACTLY like the real deal to me. Maybe you need to see an ear doctor?! @TJOnes: Augsburg oder Aschaffenburg?
I always wondered why not use the real sounds and port them over. I guess it isn't possible but it would be great. also not just engine noise but road, tranny and other sounds as well like if the suspension is to low you hear the car hit the ground. Sounds add so much to the immersion I wish I was computer savvy I would try to make a mod or something....
the sounds are more natural compared to rfactor1 but they just have poor sound effects over them, hope they are not final. by the way the Megane sounds are creepy and upsetting when heard from outside it sounds like some screaming worms.its terrible how could they allow it!!! and yes my sound system is not that bad: -Asus Essence St sound card(upgraded with 3 expensive burson op amps) -Sennheiser HD 600 Head Phones -Wireworld Stratus 5² Power Cable and a good chosen power supply and dont tell me i need an ear doctor
Concerning the Megane sounds, I actually agree with you. It does sound very...not so right. Aweful to be precise.
Yes the GT-R and also 370Z are quite close to the real one, but for the Renault cars, there is still some room for improvement. Bei Aschaffenburg. But I don´t want to criticize ISI to much, because other company didn´t do much better. In the past, the weighting generally lay more on graphic rather than sound, simply because you couldn´t print sound examples on a box. And IMO, that is the reason why sound development, is very much behind other areas. But these days with wide ditribution of internet, most people are able to watch videos and make decision on that.
Like I said, the growl is the same as the real GTR. You have to listen beyond that, there's where the problem lies.
It's because there are a lot less sound specialists than gfx ones. Since ISI cannot notice that its gfx is unnatural saying that it looks good, don't expect that they will know how sound wave travels, reflects from objects, diffuse on materials etc. Reverb effect implemented in current ver. of rF2 is a proof. Another issue is cars sound volume slope as distance function. It's true to all companies producing sims. But last time iRacing made a step forward adding low frequency sound layer to drive sub-woofers better.
and not to be rude, but of course no response from any official isi team member..... i bet they will say something like "we are working on it again this is only a beta not a refection of the final game...." so cross your fingers and hope the sounds are better in final bc i dont think that isi is oging to refocus on the sounds atm with them working on tire modeling and rain effects things like that, the sound can always be added in after the fact
to me all the sounds for the vehicles are very low bit and over compressed, but they are likely only a place holder for what they will actually put in from what i have read it seems like they are working more on the feel of the game then then pretty's, and sound to me would be a pretty to be polished on at the end of the game with graphics i meant that to sound generic, but likely i think it would be there answer
Being a musical producer and working with post production audio for over a decade I few so happy to see people discussing SOUNDS! Just to point out something good, I feel the doppler effect is quite nice! I know nothing abour programming, but if some modder needs a hand with audio processing, send me a msg. Cheers
