I'm just about to install a new hard drive, can I save the activation files and copy them to the new install?
    If so, which ones?

Windows7? Sorry, on my phone so cant see if you entered it on your profile.

If win7: There is an invisible folder called appdata, in that is a folder called .rFactor2 (note the dot). Copy it to the appdata of your new windows install.

Can't guarantee success, it might make you reactivate if system seems different enough.

    Its windows vista.
I have found the .rfactor folder in app data though.
I'll let you know how it goes.
    Thanks for the quick reply.

I still have the original files on the drive that was replaced, is there something else I can try?

If rF2 works like rF1 then you have to save a registry entry too, so that you can put it back when you reinstall the game. The question is: which is the correct registry file? :D
I had a look in my AppData folder and there is a folder called .rFactor (without number 2): considering that I haven't reinstalled rF1 yet, I think it's the folder Tim mentioned earlier.

I dont want to waste any if possible. lol.
I have the original rfactor disk so I never had to go through the reactivation / trymedia folder thing. I guess I was spoilt having the disk.

It means that you have to send an e-mail to ISI asking for your activations to be reset, so that you'll have other 5 activations (just like it happened with rF1).

Exactly ... like I did already ... I sent an email to ISI to please reset my activations ... which they did within a few minutes.

I'd recently swapped out my motherboard and I suspect this has necessitated a reactivation. But I'm back to square one with the "Starting secure connection with commerce server" message. I can't recall where I'd found the solution when I first installed the game. It had something to do with reseting my internet connection? Or clearing some cache file? I can't recall, but after it was done the commerce server was able to immediately connect. I'm having trouble locating that solution. I hadn't realised that I'm still on 0.537.

My problem in post #12 went away after I uninstalled my older version of rfactor 2 Beta and install the newer 0.69 Beta version. All is good with 0.69.
