I have been racing sims for years now and an area I have always hoped would be replicated is the British Touring Car package. For me the BTCC has always been the pinnacle of UK motorsport which has brought drivers from all corners of the world to race. I could go on for hours how certain years have stuck in my mind and certain champions from many decades have been stunning to watch. Anyway, if ISI or a modding group could think about it for the future, I feel the whole package could be a fantastic addition to rF2. The package contains something to suit everyone. The BTCC cars have recently moved towards the NGTC regulations which means a regulation front and rear subframe is used and either FWD or RWD can be implemented. A 2000cc turbocharged engine is now used rather the the N/A units of old with a boost regulation campaign carried out by Lotus in order to equalise the field. The original S2000 chassis can still run with a NGTC spec engine. The support package is also exciting, which contains:- Air Asia Renault Clio Cup (rumours ISI have already built) Ginetta Junior Championship Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup Porsche Carrera Cup GB Formula Renault 2.0 UK (currently not running in 2012) (already built by ISI) British Touring Cars (MSA BTCC) Click for Regs - PDF 2.0-litre Turbocharged 4cyl - 300bhp+ FWD or RWD 6-spd Sequential Box Approx 1100kgs Air Asia Renault Clio Cup Click for Regs 2.0-litre N/A 4cyl - 205bhp FWD 6-spd Sequential Box Approx 1100kgs Ginetta Junior Championship Click for Regs - PDF 1.8-litre N/A 4cyl - 100bhp (restricted) RWD 6-spd Sequential Box Approx 750kgs Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup Click for Regs - PDF Running two specs of car in the same race. Would love to see the Ginettas in rF2. They seem to be the perfect middle ground in terms of grip, speed and power. And the BTCC is a no brainer
I agree the BTCC is an awesome series, I know TOCA in the old days had the rights to it as I use to play it many many moons ago, +1 on your post
BTCC is just banger racing for rich boys nowadays nowhere near the levels of talent from mid/late 90's and beginning off 00's
I'd buy whatever sim has BTCC JUST FOR BTCC! But the problem is rights to the name. IIRC Codemasters owns the rights to BTCC games and no one else can even make a mod of the cars. There's a BTCC mod for Race 07 and rFactor and they have to change the mod name just to keep from getting shut down. BTCC mods have been forced by court order to be removed several times. So unless ISI can work a deal, there will be no BTCC (officially anyway) in rF2.
Would love to see a BTCC mod! Also RE BTCC being banger racing for rich boys... In my opinion the driving standards between the mid 1990s to now are very much the same. I'm a huge fan of the championship and feel that the only reason people are claiming it's worse now is because of the amount of TV coverage it gets compared to the 1990s, just watch the season reviews - standards are very much the same, if not a little better now. There will always be drivers who go over the mark - they're racers who are full of adrenaline, of course they might end up going over the top, but it adds to the excitement too.
Excellent sounds good. I remember one being started for rF1, not sure if it was ever finished but it was one i was looking forward to.
Just come back from BTCC at Donington this weekend .....Awesome racing by Plato to get to 3rd , but the incident with Sheddon ruined a perfect race . Saying that my voice has'nt recovered yet LOL Guy Moulton ...your right when you say I'd buy any sim if it had BTCC in it
Been a huge fan of the BTCC for many years, and whole heartedly agree with everything about this post (apart from the rich boys bangers part), I too went to Donington on Sunday and would LOVE to see BTCC in rF2... Ive recently downloaded the BTCC mod for Race07 and all the tracks for the current season, although they use Volvo's for the Focus' and Integra's for the Civics etc, but its still great fun to participate in the races with all the names, would LOVE to see an online championship...
I have a BTCC mod for Race 07 (2009 cars) and they race really well offline. I found all the 2009 tracks (well, the layouts are from around that era, only Rockingham was way off) and did an offline season. It really is the best touring cars series in the world IMHO.
Does it use the right cars fella? If its better than the one I have then do you have a link for it please bud?
