Don't worry for the grass. Only one look at Feels3's work show that it's possible to have at least a decent comparision with Iracing's grass.

Most people forget that rF2 has a complete dynamic environment. The lightning engine has to produce a good and realistic looking picture at all times of the day. The engine has to consider clouds, fog, rain, moonlight, light pollution (from nearby city's), geographical location, time zone, altitude, season, air pressure (mass of air), the haziness of the sky (turbidity) and so on. All these parameters can be adjusted inside the engine, but not all are fully implemented and have just default values.
ISI textures are very good. The only reason you need higher resolution is for some kind of ultra realistic screen shots but i have doubts that everybody wants to buy a new gfx card with 4GB vram. What makes a huge difference is the colour of the textures and these colours are controlled by the hdr engine. The colour of the raw texture itself is just one factor. If you define for example the sunlight to have a more blue tone, all textures will become more blue. In a simple engine (that has a fixed time of the day) you would adjust the colour of the sunlight once and become a perfect lightning just for that moment in time. What rF2 does is to consider all the previous mentioned parameters and calculate the lightning new for every 150 frames. Most of the parameters are controlled by the hdr profile and the weather system. This model makes it easy for modders. They just have to set the geographical location and the date of the race and the gfx engine will do the rest (working moon phases included).

    Some example pics.

These two pics only have a different turbidity setting.

These pics have a different air mass setting. Notice the change in the colour of the textures.

Are those features all linked to the physics engine too?
I have no idea about that, so just wondering.

@ Tosch nice post. Had no idea how sophisticated environment/graphics engine was. Impressive!

Forgive my poor translation skills via google... but I believe 'vrai' means 'truth' or 'real'. So that last shot is probably from real life.

Yeah its clearly real picture and it has bit diferent bodykit aswell. But those ingame shoots look awesome.
I dont think its heavily modified as ZeosPantera sayed. The first one has background edited but second one seems none edited but i could be wrong :)

    No, not imo.

I`m hoping when all is done and dusted though rf2 will look as realistic as this...
