    Hi,

I'm considering purchasing a new GPU. My current GPU is the GTX 1660 Ti, but somehow I can't put heavy load on it anymore. rF2 and AC are crashing since I bought a new motherboard earlier this year.
The problem might be caused by the new motherboard which houses a PCI-E x16 4.0 connection whilst the GPU is a PCI-E x16 3.0. Could this be the issue? Also what kind of VRAM is recommended nowadays?

    My specs:

    CPU: i7-11700
    RAM: 16 GB (DDR4 @ 2666 Mhz)
    GPU: GTX 1660 Ti (6GB GDDR6)
    SSD: Samsung 960 EVO M.2
    MOBO: Gigabyte Z590 UD AC
    OS: Windows 10

Suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What resolution do you anticipate running?

    For a single monitor 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz, but I have 3 monitors so I could set up a tripple session.
Then the resolution will be 5760 x 3600, but since most GPU's have 4 connection options
    (1 HDMI + 3 Display Port) it will be 7680 x 4800 at max.
I'm considering buying this GPU (it's on sale at the moment):

Wil it be good enough to run rF2 on tripples or at least on a single monitor?
If the resolution will be 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz, then it should be no problem I guess
(it only leaves an upper and lower black bar on screen).

I'd be more inclined to work out what's causing the crashing. Or you might end up with a GPU you don't need, and still crashing...

As soon as I put a heavy load on my GPU (like gaming or a tool to set up a benchmark),
my computer totally crashes (black screen and a fan starts over revving).
Personally I think that my current connection type causes the problem.
My GPU is a PCIe 3.0 version whilst my MOBO has a 4.0 version.

This seems to me to be more of a problem with an unstable power supply, I think your power supply should be checked.

Check power supply in your pc, dust in the fans.

OK, will do. I'll come back tomorrow on the subject.

How can I check the power supply? I don't have a back up one.
Btw, the power supply is 850w.

The power rating does not say much, it depends on the lanes, how many watts a single lane can deliver when only one lane is connected, how old the device is and if the capacitors are still OK. I'm afraid you will have to test a 2nd device. I myself had a new actually high quality and very expensive power supply with a defect.

Check your math. It's only the horizontal resolution that is tripled. The way you're calculating, you've ended up with 9 monitors! So triples would be likely be 5760x1200 resolution.

Anyway, just about any GPU is adequate for the single monitor and check what these folks are suggesting. If you're buying a new card, any of the following will be suitable even with if you used all 4 monitors:

Another thing you can do is to set a maximum framerate in RF2 that is more than enough for your monitor, no need to push 100 fps if your monitor can draw 60.
This should decrease the load on the gpu , if pc doesn't crash , then probably dust in the fans and/or old/defective power box are the most probable culprits.

You can also use a software tool like HWiNFO...
It can give a log overtime which Is very useful when monitoring you´re rig.

Definitely stick with an nvidia card because you’ll need to run a 6+ month old driver on AMD. I’m purchasing a 4080 FE because I have an AMD 6800 XT currently and can’t stand not being able to use current drivers.

    That’s not fair comment
I am on latest AMD drivers with a 6800xt and Game runs beautifully on my UW monitor or when I run RF2 on triple with eyefinity

the Ctd with laguna seca or some graphical glitches have been sorted out with recent tracks updates so I don’t share this bad experience

to OP running a Gen4 GPU on Gen3 motherboard is no problem at all
Without sitting in front of your PC I see your PSU being the culprit here not because wattage is inadequate since 850w is plenty but your unit might have a problem
Best way to try would be to swap with a new PSU to confirm 100%

I just went from a Vega 64 and Lenovo Explorer to a 6950XT and a Reverb G2. If I set the Windows setting to 60 hz, I can run most settings at full and some at ultra. I find 60hz acceptable in VR. I cannot see a difference between running at 90 hz and 60 hz.

Even if it gets to high FPS, the image will still be flickering.

I agree with the previous post about finding out why the crash is occurring first.
If you get a new card and that was not the problem then you may still have crashing and didn't need a new card. However, GPU upgrades are always fun to increase all quality features that you can without killing performance as much.

Anyhow, Make sure your new board is no overclocking anything or overclocking the memory either. Use motherboard defaults for starters just to see if this helps.

    It's a starting point anyhow.
