Ya see, Menard was a friend of Tony 'The Devil Incarnate' George, so when Menards ran at Indy for the 500, his team was allowed to use a Buick stock block, kind of a Poor Man's Penske Cheatmoter. Despite getting huge performance buffs from the Devil, they could never keep a fast Buick in one piece. Tony Stewart lost several 500's when his Buick engines exploded. The Buicks were always fast at Indy, but I don't recall them doing well at other, less friendly race circuits.

    a perfect description....
I'm glad his sisters took away his toys and quelled his peccadillos ....
btw, there are some shocking stories out there about Tony and the Hulman family....

I tried out the cars a couple of times this week and I found that I can't refuel them or adjust the number of pit stops in the setup. I'm not sure if that's by design, an oversight or something with my installation. Otherwise the cars feel pretty good although I also found it hard to dial out the understeer especially on a long run of laps at the Indy oval.

Primarily for my own curiosity, I did some research into what cars and engines were run in 1990 and found more info in wikipedia and https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/database/

I put the info that I found in a spreadsheet and I'll attach it here as a PDF for anyone interested.

The AI cars are far too crash prone.
It's called the "big one", I believe.

Chief, when do we get to taste the March 90C? It's the prettiest of the 1990 cars IMO.

Just got back from vacation. Congrats on the update release. Hoping to check it out tomorrow when I get time. Just starting to look into the information on the March, as it is odd that they did two different chassis for the Alfa and Porsche. I'll need to look into it further but here is a couple reference sites if these havent been looked at already.

https://www.danrincphoto.com/racefiles/1990.php# - He might have been the official photographer for the Porsche team in period.

I think I have a couple cockpit shots of the 90C when I was at the Indy 500 a few years back. Both chassis were together, I think for the first time since they raced in 1990.

Chief, deine Arbeiten sind einfach nur genial.
Evt.

I didn't have a lot of pics. I think because this project wasn't started. If it was, I probably would have taken more pics :) But here's what I have. Hopefully it's helpful

I think the MP4/4 was the spiritual successor of the BT55. Didn't Gordon Murray go to Mclaren and design the MP4/4 also?

Back to Indy, apparently March got really screwed for 1990 because they wanted to use an all Carbon Fiber design, but they were forced to use a lot of aluminum.

Yes, all carbon fiber chassis was supposed to be allowed in1990, but was delayed until 1991.

What a shame, should have been a monster of a car, the 90p. The 8W article linked above is a good read. They shifted the gearbox so all the gears were in front of the rear wing, and they put the turbocharger in front of the engine because the space before the drive axle was occupied by the gears. Apparently the engine was good too, over 800hp.
