In dev mode I managed to create a particle file (.pcd files) but it seems that it is not used in-game. Where does the particles files have to be placed (in which directory). And how does they are called for cars to be used? Does it need to have a particular name?

This is actually something i've wondered myself as it appears to be the only way to control the volume of dust and colour etc on tracks as the TDF definitions no longer have any effect.

Is this actually a functional part of the sim and if so what is required for the game to read these custom .pcd files??

I'm pretty sure they can't be used.

Effectively Coutie you are right. In normal mode they can't be used. But in dev mode yes. You can save a pcd file and use it. It has to be named rf2particles
It would be nice if these particles were tied to the car and be adjusted by modders.... Depending on the car type they give strange results. In particular early f1 90's that were low on the ground
