I've had Rf2 for a few months now. Replays had been stored fine. But I did a particularly good lap, went to check it out, and found I only had replays for about the last week or two. Everything else had disappeared. Would they be stored anywhere? Is it an update or something? That's months of hotlaps gone... Thanks!
replays are stored in the rfactor2/user data/replays folder. Depending upon your preferences from the replay UI if you are saving replays and for how long etc. There has been a recent update that included changes to the replay system and that often prevents older replays from being used. You CAN use the Steam front end to change from the newest version back to an older version that might allow you to see the older replays.
Thanks! Do I have to change to an older version to view them? There's no way of exporting the files and viewing them somewhere else? Or converting them into a playable state for the latest version of Rf2??
Replays is bugged. Sometimes I delete some, but they remain and others get deleted that I wanted to keep.
Not that I am aware of. Changing versions is simple and safe. Takes about 10 seconds for the files to download and then when you are done, you can swap back just as easily.
They had been fine for months.... Then suddenly disappeared. I really wanted to watch the replay of a league race I did last month, but hadn't got round to it. Bloody frustrating. I will have to make copies of any good laps with Shadowplay....
Oh, OK. That's good to know, thank you! And you think the old replay files will still be in the folder?
yes, Unless someone like @Lazza or @lagg or @redapg says otherwise! They are the detail guys, I'm the 'I think' guy....;>
Thank you, but that's too much Honor for me. @Jubes Besides of the Fact that existing Replays can sometimes not be played anymore, if the Game gets an Update, you have to take care for them too, because depending on your Settings, they get overwritten sooner or later. In the player.JSON File you have a Setting with that you can define how many Replays per Track get stored, before they get overwritten. It is this one: "Number Track Replays":5, "Number Track Replays#":"how many replays to store for each track (using default naming convention only!)", So i would recommend to always rename your Hotlap Replays, which protecs them from being overwritten, independent of that Setting. And if you use the Hotlap File, to store your Hotlap, you should rename it quickly.
Yes, I usually rename them with the vehicle name and time. But everything before a certain time disappeared. Some good tips though, thanks!
I did notice replay files are now a lot bigger in size in this new build. My league races are 45 mins long and get about 16 drivers. Old build 45min race= 29,401 KB New build 45min race= 55,895 KB
This is bad ! I'm a Race Steward at CMS Racing and I need to load a previous replay. I understand the need to update the replay engine np but if that renders all previous replays obsolete... it's two steps forward and one step back. If you add up all of our replays... millions of them are now unreadable. This is not acceptable. In a situation like this, the installed base will need a utility that can convert the previous format to the new one.
That would be a worthwhile utility/app, but have you tried rolling back in Steam to the previous versions?
Roll back then roll forward then back then forward... I do not trust rF2/Steam installer to do this cleanly every time.
