I have a valve index and for me the sparks don't seem to render correctly in 3d.

Does anyone else experience this? It's like they are either rendering in one eye or not correctly rendering in both eyes.

I see zig zag lines instead of sparks. Pimax 8kx.

There are two components to the sparks, the ziggy lines and floaty sparklies. (sorry for the technical terms) You may have to increase a setting, like the soft particles, to see the full effect.

Thanks for the hint. I'll try later, however I afraid my PC can't afford higher settings.

I can try... but it's probably something only visible in the headset and not the VR mirror.

    Any particular car?

It looks like my problem relates to non-parallel projection in Pimax. I used to switch off this option in PiTool as killing performance but use similar option in player.json instead as performance friendly. However sparks work correctly only if turn on the parallel projection option in PiTool.

I agree, they don't look "real" in VR. But its very hard to explain. On the one hand, they do look amazing and I love their inclusion but something is not quite right. When I first saw it, I thought they were only being rendered in one eye - that was how it struck me. But when I checked, they are in both. I've tried to record some video but it doesn't show up the same, you have to see it with both eyes at the same time. I'm using Rift CV1 so don't think the parallel projection option is available here.

I've not yet updated RF2, but from your description I can suppose that particles are rendered in their screenspace, being VR 2 different renderings it is possible that each spark that you see in one eye has not his corresponding particle in the other eyepiece, you see sparks in both, but none are the same particles. The effect is that your brain can't place them correctly in depth.

I guess so yes. I did try to check if one particle appears in exactly the same place in each eye but it was hard to do as even in pause mode they continue to move and flicker around - from my tests I would say they are close but not perfectly aligned in each eye, so this could be the reason.
