I used to start a dedicated server from rFactor2 Dedicated.exe and afterwards start the sim and would be able to join the race in multiplayer. Now i can´t find out how to do it. If I start the server first I can´t launch Rfactor2 from Steam, and if I start the game I can´t launch the dedicated server. Anybody have a solution how to do it? Thanks in advance for any answer. Normark
Hi, you can not start the server from your game itselt, you have to install the server into a different location. I have done the following and it works nice. After you have done it , start the dedi server first , then start steam and the game: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=553088396 or here https://docs.studio-397.com/users-guide/setting-up-a-dedicated-server
Hi Lars, thanks a lot. I have made a separate installation and it used to work, but after the new UI, which I like very much, I can´t do the trick.
strange..and you really have steam closed (maybe check with taskmanager) before you start the server..? this is how it works for me..before and after new UI.
Hmm, I´m not alloved to delete \bin64, because that destination doesen´t excist, how do I handle that?
Thanks Mangoletsi and Lazza. Thanks for your advice, now I can start the dedicated server and afterwards start Rfactor2 from Steam. Now I don´t see servers in multiplayer, the Internet option is not there, only LAN. I ques it´s because the server and the game use the same ports. It used to work earlyer. Is there any change to which ports should be forewarded?
OK thanks, I´m struggling a bit with this, and it´s so long ago I have hostet races that I forgot I have got my router upgraded, so I have to do the port forwarding again.
Hello, Would you mind to elaborate please ? I've been trying to host for years, trying to follow the guide, but it never works, and it drive me a bit crazy that you need to be an expert in IT & network to be able to host a game on rF2...
A bit confused. Is it the dedicated og the rfactor2.exe where I shall delete \bin64? Sorry, I´m not that smart.
Have you followed these step by step guides? Is there something they aren't telling you? https://docs.studio-397.com/users-guide/setting-up-a-dedicated-server https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=553088396
Doh.... just seen the guides were posted earlier....I'M BLIND!! There isn't much that has changed (connection wise) except the SteamCMD setup which can be a pain. As long as that is setup, your shortcuts are right and the launch order of the dedi and client are correct then you should be golden. I have heard that some routers have problems with "loopback" so they can't join a dedi on the same PC.
For anybody reading this, I can highly recommend justrace.net to run your server. They've automated most of the installation process for rF2. I'm surprised to hear that you don't need a separate install for your server. When I set mine up, maybe a year ago, I thought I did and that's still how it's set up. Can't remember the details now so perhaps I'm wrong. Off to test it now, as I could really do with getting that drive space back. [edit: I got PTSD trying to set up a dedicated server again. Think it still requires a significant chunk of space as you have to copy files from your workshop folder to the rF2 Packages folder, so all the file moving I'd have to do makes it not worth it for me. I'll leave my server install alone. [I did find the loopback instructions that I used previously though. Might help others in this thread. Search for the 'loopback' section of this page: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2090435592]
