I intervened several times on this forum to express myself on a defect in the otherwise remarkable cars developed by S397, a defect that I think it is important to remove because it harms immersion and driving precision. To say the least, my interventions did not really arouse the curiosity or interest of the readers. So I decided to try to remedy this problem at least for myself. The problem lies in the sound of the tires. Indeed: - the sound of skidding in a corner is the same, whether the track is dry or wet - when you block the wheels when braking at high speed, the sound of the tires disappears To try to solve this problem, I started to search in the Rfactor2 mods, the ones that reproduced these noises as faithfully as possible. I managed to isolate the lines in the .sfx file that needed to be modified. Unfortunately, the S397 files are encrypted and the story would have ended there if I hadn't discovered by chance that these modifications could be done through an "upgrade.ini" file. So I added these lines of code in the "upgrade. ini" file of a car (here a ferrari 488 GTE) UpgradeType="SOUNDS" { UpgradeLevel="SKID SOUNDS (INSIDE)" { // SKID SOUNDS SFX=ScrubIndividually=1 // set to 1 to play individual sounds SFX=ScrubFreq=(1.0,-0.55,0.005,-0.00002) // (<base>,<grip>,<speed>,<load>) SFX=VS_INSIDE_TIRE_SCRUB=1.8, f488gte_SFX\scrub1_dry_in.wav SFX=VS_INSIDE_SKID_DRY=1.4, f488gte_SFX\skid2_dry_in.wav SFX=VS_INSIDE_SKID_WET=1.4, f488gte_SFX\skid2_wet_in.wav SFX=VS_INSIDE_SKID_GRASS= f488gte_SFX\grass_skid.wav SFX=VS_INSIDE_SKID_DIRT= f488gte_SFX\gravel_skid.wav SFX=VS_INSIDE_SKID_GRAVEL= f488gte_SFX\gravel_skid.wav SFX= } UpgradeLvel="original sounds" { SFX=ScrubIndividually=0 } } And it works. For those who want to make a special mod based on the S397 cars, you just have to add the above lines in the upgrade file provided by S397. To activate the new sounds, you have to go to the "customize" part of the vehicle you want to use, activate the "skid sound (inside)" option, validate and then select this vehicle. The tests I did were done with the number of sound effects set to 32 and the sound related to the tires set to 100%. I do not guarantee the effects with other settings. Finally, for all those who would like to test this sound improvement without having to create a new mod, I made a modification of the very good existing mod "global endurance mod 2019-2020", present on the worshop at this address : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2110884303 You will find hereafter the new files that change the mod from the 1920 version to 1920a. I remind you that the modification is done on an original S397 file and not on the mod files. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mGFwMyT_ZciptnSeWUU8XiAE8WVqn5GE/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_UFehG8LBaHq5vbFk_yHDsimbGfTjD5w/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oXf7DX1ZXCkVLorWdSLPTy5eW9CXTrKA/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aUVJrlx7EPQjIEko6hua-appth2v6cUG/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tC10iuEZBCaDhoTo3zn25e-GAIORHBr7/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZPgXXzjnu_LDUx2CE-9ZHTbOPK1c7PCO/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nVL3zywaq7itvGp4vh_9LhTbcr0WGCgc/view?usp=sharing Note that I didn't think it was necessary to modify the external sounds which, curiously, are present although at a low level. If you use this modification, you will appreciate the feeling of better feeling the car's skids by differentiating the front and the rear axle and you will be able to more easily dose your braking at high speed. It will also allow you to better adjust the ABS and the front/rear brake distribution. And you will also be able to better realize the difference in grip on dry and wet surfaces. I'm looking forward to any positive or negative comment, any suggestion for possible further modifications. Have a good trip.
Wow this is so good. I didn't know we could make different sound sets for the official cars! Finally I may be able sort out the pathetic Radical SR3 sounds.
If only rF2 were mod-friendly like AC audio is. Still, nice work on coming up with a solution to skid sounds.
Thanks for your answers guys. I wanted to tell you that I will soon put online all the original files of the S397 cars (GT3, GTE, LMP2, LMP3, DPi) modified with the new skid sounds.
Thats great effort and sharing! Sound overal in RF2 is a bit meh so any contribution like yours is very welcome
As promised, you will find below the modified "car_upgrade.mas" files of the S397 cars in rfcmp form. These files are to be installed in the "packages" folder of your rfactor2 directory and then installed via the UI. Do not hesitate to send me your remarks or suggestions. Have a good trip. NB: once installed, the files of the cars will appear with an index "a" (ex: 2.95a for a car whose official version number is 2.95) AstonMartin_Vantage_GT3_2019 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KCrRgtPheTAF-8Y0-VVYQecE_8ZVSj2C/view?usp=sharing AstonMartin_Vantage_GTE_2019 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u7_x49sHJB22ALgpPjVuawoLfKRtwQN0/view?usp=sharing Audi_R8LMS_GT3_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mo1YnLY2y1JtUQlNnmVAnlbD9yU_Ie8x/view?usp=sharing Audi_R8LMS_GT3_2019 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kfgraW_80wzFUbOhCbA71hUBG1a8XBu7/view?usp=sharing Bentley_Continental_GT3_2017 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1w9RjKlzJQlmT5MiyLDnTCu7uv_Qt0gYl/view?usp=sharing Bentley_Continental_GT3_2020 https://drive.google.com/file/d/14l0f8BxWKoJIbdQDmpX00tOHr6PTNEhp/view?usp=sharing BMW_M6_GT3_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z5T_KGYtD-5mZcIFqxnxdiwpyrHbTmo3/view?usp=sharing BMW_M8_GTE_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vwdZykX4gnGNM3AM7NtsetyRR-EcFW_K/view?usp=sharing Cadillac_DPi_2020 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qIDaxv6KJRhMxKk6UKh-1XpgWxONy3eG/view?usp=sharing Callaway_Corvette_GT3_2017 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VsT0eAWVzPBHCM99kWU50pmyZjXorxgO/view?usp=sharing Corvette_C7R_GTE_2017 https://drive.google.com/file/d/17IQnjLXQ-nR0tKdUJhwTU57hAnsu2KT2/view?usp=sharing Corvette_C8R_GTE_2020 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wPxLxC3wc7W-dI3xcjFlXtOQxiSw_cN0/view?usp=sharing Ferrari_488_GT3_2020 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HzJU6vhEidpzUlC1g__OL4zBuwqqm4qI/view?usp=sharing Ferrari_488_GTE_2020 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EJ0fACnbKilQs8jtTtcsdXq2j0aInBH5/view?usp=sharing Ligier_JSP217_2020 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hdkTi-Q2l_k6xGb1i81jM-LN9DHSYndc/view?usp=sharing McLaren_650S_GT3_2017 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fKrnux5PJpT8NR5GGG2rpCUbC9nl-rF8/view?usp=sharing McLaren_720S_GT3_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qkNwhFH4f_VpirANVFqg0D7tpZEECVVC/view?usp=sharing Mercedes_AMG_GT2_2017 https://drive.google.com/file/d/17y99PrD7yPemC_g_X2fDBQ8fCPGjznkq/view?usp=sharing Norma_M30_LMP3_2017 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MFIBa8RU8F-GslcTDlhMsSRZxuTNfnL_/view?usp=sharing Oreca_07_LMP2_2017 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xi5v1tby6-OQQc35Fywy-ZizwpnrOREC/view?usp=sharing Porsche_911_GT3_R_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vY6sYVkD-VyP5h3XTw0C-Be73wzEpXn6/view?usp=sharing Porsche_991RSR_GTE_2017 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JVvOVlmtkluF2f7vC0xusDTPR3eTiyqj/view?usp=sharing Porsche_Cup_GT3_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rd4YCEjotZb8CtLJ8KfR1f9nnZiCexRb/view?usp=sharing Radical_RXC_GT3_2017 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SxGzW0og2ezw5XujbKQkmDBSpMJdCqoj/view?usp=sharing
When S397 announced the update of the Tatuus series and said that the sounds had been improved, I naively thought that they had integrated the sound modification that I proposed. Unfortunately, this is not the case and it proves once again how little interest S397 takes in its customers' comments. So I propose you this modification of the tire sounds for one of the cars I took at random: Tatuus_PM-18_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ffxFp_culZ9GCK5SCBfuODbai-HSw9ol/view?usp=sharing I have made some changes in the parameters of the sounds. Tell me if you want that I make this modification for other Tatuus.
OK : here are the other Tatuus Tatuus_F3_T318_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YQgHamXENJB17G-v018z4Auo2PMC1zzu/view?usp=sharing Tatuus_F4_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1to2X0CaAuUsMbLMiJKlIrXabArgCDWR6/view?usp=sharing Tatuus_FT-50_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WRdZAXHRpfnwDBkZi5s1IFCjcV2EJkI1/view?usp=sharing Tatuus_FT-60_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/19K8qJs-GuJ1s8FJENQxgV65iNwyw43B5/view?usp=sharing Tatuus_MSV_F3-016_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hWsDAvC_BnjWKJhmulumqjqPy09CFthr/view?usp=sharing Tatuus_MSV_F3-020_2020 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bkwDh5CnVDckXmrEjLL4zwfT9ja2JUZF/view?usp=sharing Tatuus_USF-17_2018 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yZ5xbhjJDV0uIaXLUmBCTz6lCd2riHLQ/view?usp=sharing
As a company, there is no way they could just 'accept' your modifications without some sort of agreement being worked out first. You could immediately run to a court and claim Theft of Intellectual Property. Depending upon which Country you live in, you might have won. There have been many improvements over the years created by users, but I can't think of any(at least that have been acknowledged by either party) where S397 has gone: Wow good Idea, we'll take it.... But thank YOU for your work!
You see everything in black. I don't see how I could take any ownership of lines of code that have been part of RF2 since the beginning. It's a simple implementation of something that exists and has been used by a number of mod makers (Enduracers, Simtek, etc...). My goal is not to seek the agreement (or disagreement) of S397 but to bring a real improvement to the game in a sector left a bit abandoned by the developers.
oops! I forgot about the BMW M4 class1. So here is the file for it; I modified the sounds a little and added the brake hiss (if you don't like it, you can disable it in the customize page of the car you chose) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hQO-U1xQnmDgZ18uxNkNKUMUxeLAi2Ga/view?usp=sharing
I continued my research on tire sounds during cornering and braking, on dry and wet surfaces. I came up with something that seems a little more realistic and applied it to the new cars: BMW8M4_GT3 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1repK6ZmFGsecIg9rZWBJe3WSOCJltA8M/view?usp=sharing LIGIER_JSP320_LMP3 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JS9TMGUEA8LjZpEPN5M7Mhc0jwy762pJ/view?usp=sharing NORMA_M30-LMP3 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1w2Pt2ZZ5jg4amfKyU4_UFTcbL6gGE1XL/view?usp=sharing Do not hesitate to send me your remarks or suggestions. Have a good trip.
I understand, but LAWYERS do not. A few years ago somebody came up with a brilliant KERS/P2P hack for rF1/GTR2, you use the hand brake and instead of applying braking forces, you use negative numbers that reduce braking drag so the car would run faster. We never saw ISI pick that up and run with it...they just can't, unless they enter into an agreement with whomever came up with the hack. And then what if you had shown your work to BillyBobSimRacer. He might then claim part of that was his input... It is a no win situation for a privately held company. With that said, I have to continue to praise your work. Above & beyond....
