I should have typed "sim racing bucket list". A summer Saturday @ 17:00 for me is unlikely but not impossible. I subscribed to the content last night, I'll do some laps during the week if I can. I hope that you get a decent turnout.
We're at 15 signups atm with one week to go, sure let us know in the Discord if you feel like joining and I'll add you to the list.
I'm going to race this. Aus-friendly timezone on one of my tracks. Looking forward to it with LM-esque excitement
I've made up a livery based on the classic international racing colours. White for the German car, green and gold for the Australian driver. Alarm set for the race tomorrow morning As a happy accident, if you ignore the green it looks a fair bit like a factory Porsche livery from the general period https://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/1969/Le_Mans-1969-06-15-014.jpg
I had a great time! Didn't hit anyone, didn't go up any escape roads, no spins. But did go over the Indianapolis sandbank into a little sponsor board which then required a 15sec front aero repair early in the night phase. After that i bungled along the wall at the exit of the Esses a few times for mild suspension damage, and once into the outside wall at Maison Blanche to accidentally balance out the suspension damage. I planned an out-of-synch fuel strategy to try and keep away from other cars, and i indeed spent most of the race alone, which is good for me and good for everyone else First few laps had some nice slipstream battles with a couple of folks. Started 13th of 19, moved through the field as people presumably explored runoffs and damage repairs, and ended up 5th of 13 finishers. My first long online race ever. Didn't expect such a good result! A few screens i picked out of the replay file Start, and lap 1 Me launching over the sand and into the back of the sign Cliche shot. The lighting/env effects have really gone up a notch or two over the last several months, thanks to 397 Live stream, starting with formation lap at 1h25m / "&t=5098"
Such a great race with great cars and on a great track. Special thanks to @woochoo @yoss and @mister dog for all their hard work and craftsmanship to give us the opportunity to get a glimpse of just how amazing these cars and drivers truly were.
I've rough-cut some highlights from the first few laps of the server's replay file if anyone is up for 16mins of casual viewing. Occasionally terrifying viewing. Includes parts of the parade lap for the sake of ceremony
I survived till the morning, then I had a huge crash into Maison Blanche and when my wreck landed I didn't know if I was facing the good side or the opposite way as I couldn't see the track ahead, so I quit in order to avoid anyone hurling into me at 310k's an hour
