Wow! And I mean wow! What an experience! If anyone hasn't tried the new road mesh yet, please take your favourite road weapon and just attack the thing. It's glorious! I've had versions of this track since it's initial conversion to GTR2, but this is in a different world...gone are those overly harsh bumpy spots, replaced by something more rounded and believable. It looks superb and drives out of it's head! Six stars out of five! Awesome work Sir, Thank you!
@svictor Incredible and simply a beauty. Immersion high, fluid flow, adventurous more and more realistic and landscapers/designers can learn from you how to handle vegetation. This track also doesn't seem as cool/technical as many race tracks. There is something daring and lively about your Targa Florio in addition to its beauty. Keep it up!!!
Thank you all for the comments. Here is a small update, mainly addressed various issues with trackside camera, now they are good for broadcast. v1.03 (2021-05-04) - Fixed a texture error v1.02 (2021-05-04) - Fixed many buildings and objects - Added additional terrain pieces - Fixed a few objects' LOD - Fixed start line banner v1.01 (2021-04-26) - Reworked and fixed all Trackside Cameras - Removed unused SCN files - Fixed a few objects and textures ---------------------------------- v1.04 (2021-05-07) - Fixed buildings and added missing roofs at Collesano, adjusted trackside camera & collision wall - Updated several low-resolution textures to more details - Various small fixes
Thank you for continuing to improve the track. Once I got stuck in the area of the circle and the people in the photo did not help me to get out the car. I had to restart the race. Maybe you could tell them something?
No worries, this exact spot has been already fixed with a new collision wall (as mentioned in v1.04 update log): - Fixed buildings and added missing roofs at Collesano, adjusted trackside camera & collision wall How it (invisible purple wall) looks like now:
Do you think to rework people on stands/road sides? Those looks awful (not your fault of course) and as Sicilian I don't feel like they are from my country lol
Sicily? I thought the Targo was in Florens, located just next to Guilder. Inconceivable! Does the Dread Pirate Roberts know of this?
What a job, looking for all those people, taking them to the same section, taking pictures of them again ... that is mission impossible for a human being. Thank you !! I missed the log. I hope I haven't caused any inconvenience to those people.
Thanks for comments. It's true that there are 3400 individual billboard objects which 90% of them are crowds. And all of them have orientation issue (UV) which prevents them from simply transforming into the newer rf2 billboard technology. Also if to add new ones, have to consider that every objects have to be set with right amount LOD values so they don't constantly popping up in the middle of air, due to the way the original GPL track were made of only partial section of terrain full of empty space outside normal driving view, unlike modern sim tracks that usually made with full geographic land mesh. (if you familiar with rf2 modding, you will understand the amount time and difficulty it involves). Finding free & historic accurate photo assets will also be a very difficult task. And at the end, this is the track that how the original track authors of GPL and GTL/GTR2/RF1 had made, it is important to preserve all those details as how they were made of. As a conversion, the track is already complete with all the important features from rf2. Lastly, beside good suggestions, I think it would be nice to see more and more people join modding. I personally start learning and modding just a year ago because there are many great old contents that left in dust and unupdated.
Forget what I said lol wasn't expecting soo much work. Was thinking was possible to simply change and rename the files to match the old ones and replace them lol.
Maybe svictor just needs a 'Crowd' fund to get the crowds working . I'm just joking . Great work again svictor.
My original plan for targa update was to conclude all the work and move on to other projects after v0.33 was released in January. But then noticed that the road mesh was still in an incomplete state, and would be a shame to left surface mesh in such half state which highly unlikely will see other modders picking it up and fixing the road in the future. So I had spent last 3 months(nearly 300hours) to finish the pieces that would finally give the track what it deserves. There are of course many areas that could use a lot more updates, such as optimize thousands of none terrain objects and PBR, though none of those can be done over night or even months. Nevertheless, the good foundation has already been laid, other modders can continue from here. For me, the work on targa is concluded, and it is time to move on to other projects. Thanks.
@svictor - following this project and then driving it has been a privilege and much pleasure. It's my stress reliever. Tough day? Choose your ride and take a quick spin around "The Targa". Instant relief! Mucho gracias for your love of modding, sv.
Oh, I think I check this update 1.00, you sooo awsome. I love to drive this 72 Km track sometimes with diff old cars with my VR HP reverb G2 glass. Oh my god is this a beautiful driving and race feeling here thanks for this hard work a lot.
