Does Attack Mode = Push to Pass?

    Spinning off of a conversation we have here:

    https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/idt-2005-2006-champcar-lola.58227/page-7#post-1052223

    I don't remember the time frame, Sept I think, it was announced that rF2 was getting "attack mode". I see the button in the control settings now.

    In real life Formula E, it activates via driving over a part of the track.
    https://www.racedepartment.com/threads/formula-e-attack-mode.162279/

    My question, how is it implemented in rF2? How is it done? My hope is that this is actually "Push to Pass" that is used in other series (Indycar, Super Formula, etc).

    rF2 has a "Temporary Boost" button. But I believe that works is when you push the button, it will only give you the maximum boost that you can select. The issue is that in Indycar and Super Formula, that maximum boost is not selectable within the car. You only get it by pushing the button.

    Just wanted clarification on this. Wanted to see if this is something that would be added. Or if real "Push to Pass" is in game, how to apply it from the modding perspective.

    No, it's just for the Formula E attack mode, which is not included yet.

    I hit like for an informative answer. It will be cool to get attack mode (for Formula E lovers) and also other forms of boost (like Push to Pass)

    Noting that Attack mode should not be a button. You have to drive over a certain part of (off-racing line) track to activate it. There is nothing you do in the cockpit, beyond driving properly over the start and finish of the section to activate it. Now that is a skill even the real drivers miss sometimes, which adds to the drama. This would also need to be added to the third party Formula E circuits.

    You just arm it with a button, but I won't go into too much detail until it's released.

    It would give a car increased power for a limited time, seemingly not like Indycar push to pass.

    IndyCar push-to-pass provides an additional 60 HP for up to 200 seconds while the button is pressed.

    Damn, I was hoping for that as being a possible work around. It sucks that the Dallara got lost in the transition over the years. Lots of items that should have been on it wasn't. Proper Push to Pass, weight jacker

    While rFactor was born in the dining room of Pizza Bobs Uptown on State St in Ann Arbor Michigan the developers are now a continent away.

    I haven't heard that story, but the original developers are still in Ann Arbor, AFAIK.

    And they are the ones who released the Indycar, not S397.

    The original was an ISI release but its been updated significantly since, as has FISI. It's definitely a low priority but frankly its just adding a few new variables and a countdown timer. And then graphics to the on board display. And updating the Physics Worksheet. And, and, and.....before you know it its not so simple. I get it, just wish others did too.

    Not too concerned about it or a hybrid booster for that matter. I suspect S397 has their fingers pretty busy trying to bring the new UI forward and toss out a few new DLC's to keep a decent revenue stream. As they say "its their BBQ, I'll just enjoy the feast".

    Is it currently possible to add attack mode in dev mode? So you can use it in other cars

    It only works on the Formula E car right now, and they haven't released any info on how it works.

    Don't know if this would be the best place to put this!? But at least I believe that those searching for AttackMode might land here, so it cannot be completely wrong.

    This is from the FE_2021_Upgrades.ini:
    Code:
    UpgradeType="Attack Mode Mod"
    {
      UpgradeLevel="ATTACK MODE MOD"
      {
        Description="Attack Mode Settings"
        HDV=[ATTACKMODE]
        HDV=AttackModeEngineMap=8
        HDV=AttackModeTimeDuration=30.0
        HDV=AttackModeActivationRequirement=3
        HDV=AttackModeMaxArmings=5
        HDV=AttackModeArmingDuration=5.0
      }
    }
    And this is from the FE Test Track aka Lester SCN:
    Code:
    //-------------------------------------------------------
    //------------------ATTACK ZONE FE--------------------
    //-------------------------------------------------------
    Instance=xAttack1
    {
      Render=False
      MeshFile=xAttack1.gmt CollTarget=True HATTarget=False
      Response=VEHICLE,ATTACK
    }
    Instance=xAttack2
    {
      Render=False
      MeshFile=xAttack2.gmt CollTarget=True HATTarget=False
      Response=VEHICLE,ATTACK
    }
    Instance=xAttack3
    {
      Render=False
      MeshFile=xAttack3.gmt CollTarget=True HATTarget=False
      Response=VEHICLE,ATTACK
    }

    Instance=BroadcastAttackTrigger
    {
      Visgroups=(2048)
      MeshFile=BroadcastAttackTrigger.gmt CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
    }
    Instance=BroadcastAttackActivate
    {
      Visgroups=(2048)
      MeshFile=BroadcastAttackActivate.gmt CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
    }

    Instance=Decals_generic_13
    {
      MeshFile=Decals_generic_13.gmt CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
    }

    It's still premature, but with the recent release of the Dallara Indy, will it be possible to enable the P2P option on other cars?

    Most of us certainly hope so, I do see some conflict between the S397 Indycar and the 3rd party version that also was just released. I suspect, if they eventually do open that up, they may withold any access to the P2P code until the sales rush for the new car here dies down.
