Agreed, it would be nice to have a bit more documentation than is provided here...

    https://docs.studio-397.com/users-guide/broadcast-overlays

Also i have had a problem with the replay option, after using the "show replay" the caption at the top sticks showing Replay and i can't get back the timing option.

Some better documentation and an FAQ would help especially for customisation options.

To customize, you can unjar with 7zip the file rFactor 2\Bin\Bundles\net.rfactor2.overlay.jar; Then just copy the default directory in rFactor 2\overlays.
In default dir, you will html files, css files, fonts files.... but you should begin with rFactor 2\overlays\default\customize dir files to customize.

Does anybody know where does it take the team logos, driver helmets and other stuff from? When I use a mod they all come up as black question marks

As Shane told you, it's not an overlay problem.
You are using content not updated to the current UI.
If you want the icons you should contact to the creator of that content.

Not talking about the icons, we figured that out. I mean the broadcast overlay and how to fully customize it and share in workshop as promised
