Starting to add the missing pit buildings. This may take a little time but will look really good when done.
Hi Mike, this is looking great. I used to race at this track a long time ago, and the first thing I noticed when I watched your video lap was that there are 2 critical trees in the slightly wrong place. That's actually a compliment to how correct the track looks. One of the tricks to driving Oran Park was to stay flat over the crest before the last corner, to do that you had to enter the blind crest not knowing where the exit was, however there were 2 trees that everybody used as aiming points. If you simply aimed at the middle of the top of the trees you could take the crest flat without actually knowing where the corner was. I have added a marker on you image below to where I think they should be moved. I don't think they are out by much, maybe a few meters and they also need to be a little taller. I have also found some old video that shows what I mean so I hope it helps.
Wow, imagine another Oran Park real life driver seeing the trees and realizing they are in the perfect place
Cool. Thanks for that. The trees are correct now to within a meter, but the height may be an issue. Have a look at the screen shot below and you will see that the trees will be correct. I will remove the sat map trees after I have "planted" them correctly. Trying to be a bit fussy with this track. It should be a good version when done. I have added a couple of screen shots to show the tree/s. The terrain around the outside of the track is new, current LIDAR info so that may be why the trees are now a little more accurate. I am a tree nerd lol. It is the same as Bathurst. No one has done Bathurst correctly except in Gran Turismo 6....75% of the trees were individually laser scanned and it shows. Get the placement right and the colours....you have a bit of a win.
The wip69.jpg image show it just like I remember perfectly, the tip of the tree was only just visible just like your image and it was the perfect thing to aim for to stay flat over the crest. Thanks for the detail it makes all the difference.
Mike glad you are a tree nerd... This is great stuff I remember seeing a video about Harry Firth teaching Peter Brock how to drive over the top of Bathurst aiming for trees in a way very similar to this. And who can forget Peter Williamson in car camera and commentary and he would comment about going under a tree at Bathurst ( if you don’t do a you tube search for “Peter Williamson race cam” ) sensational memories
Hey everyone, Bit of an update. Getting the terrain and textures sorted and mapped. Pain in the A. Here are some WIP. Next job is planting trees and doing some Photoshop editing on the texture map for the terrain and removing unwanted shadows, trees etc.
Hey everyone. Lots of updates. Here is a 5 lap AI race late afternoon. Version 0.40 will be released as soon as possible * Added a huge outer terrain, 6 km radius. * Added hundreds of trees and treewalls to the horizon * Updated the SPEC map for the inner and outer terrain. * Added new buildings to the pits area and outer spectator are (toilet blocks etc) Future Updates; * Fine tune images and tree placements * Add more buildings. * Add new terrain and gravel around grand stands and control tower. * Map the pit area roads as best I can
Based on the latest lighting update, your efforts should really pay off. Natural horizons seem to be part of their plan.
Amazing effort Mike. Love to see a high quality Surfers Paradise circuit from you The extra detail you put into your tracks would be incredible for this track.
Hahaha....Only if I can charge $2.50 USD per track I do There is so much work in these.....and my skills are not as good as others out there. I think I have passed the 400 hour mark with Oran Park....
Oran Park update.....just a small one coming hopefully tonight Aussie time. It will be Version 0.427....as in 427 Cobra lol. I have got the sponsors on the walls and updated the big concrete slab and around the control tower... Also....the track is much brighter than before due to the latest update. In all honesty......it looks like a normal bright summer day in Australia
Looks great Mike, will you be adding the new Graphical Features that S397 are working on (and releasing soon to the modders)? Not sure exactly about the process but the latest Build Notes talk about them. Loved this track in rF1!
