@Cote Dazur I once set it to 4km to check it worked, and had surprisingly good performance

I'm using WMR headset and for me "Moving Rearview" is set to 3 by default, but the mirrors are still static and not moving by the head movement. Is there any other steps to do to get this feature working?

That's not something that works in VR at this stage. It was mentioned in the recent RD interview I think, so hopefully they will implement something at some point.

Is there a way to stretch the mirror image vertically and/or horizontally? Ctrl-Shift down or up used to do that... years ago. The image in my car-mounted mirrors is distorted, stretched horizontally.

That normally can only be solved with a remapping of the mirrors.
Or the used mirror texture has a size that don't matches the mapping.

So... nothing that I can do? I see the distortion varies with different cars so I guess it would be a by-car mapping fix if possible at all. Bummer. Why did that adjustment have to go away? :(

    @Ricknau

    ALL MIRRORS, REAL AND VIRTUAL
    Ctrl+Shift + Seat Up = zoom out
    Ctrl+Shift + Seat Down = zoom in
    Still works.

    I think you're after
    Ctrl+Shift + Seat Fore
    Ctrl+Shift + Seat Aft
which stretches or squashes the rearview mirror only.
    You need to set
    "Rearview Independent":true,

Oh #ADSTA just as unhelpful as always :p

I said it before, you need to write the mirror manual ;) (pretty sure you already did

Whaa! I thought that would do it! But it doesn't for me. Yes, Ctrl+Shift was the old keys that used to work for me. And sure enough in my player.JSON, "Rearview Independent" was set to false so I was excited to change it to true and give it another try. But no...
As I look at the "help" lines for some of the rearview settings, for example:

"Rearview Driving#":"0=Off, ... (virtual mirrors only, in-car mirrors are on\/off), applies to nosecam, cockpit, and TV cockpit"

I want to think that "Rearview" settings relate to the "virtual" mirrors only.

When I use Ctrl+Shft with seat-down or seat-up I see the black box showing number changes for "mirror size" but nothing changes in the mirror view. Tried 2 different cars. Ctrl+Shft with seat-forward or seat-back doesn't even bring up numbers in that box. Sometime when you have the time I'd like to know if you can for sure make the your car-mounted mirror views stretch either horz or vert.

I'm too smart to try that.
I know a manual has a lot of technical stuff with chapters of researched data and procedure.

A guide though is only as good as the guide and I was exceeding my level of dumb to not just copy but also paste blocks of text from Jason's files. Thanks again Jason. :D

This whole thing is a bit complicated, because it starts with the question if the the mod has properly made mirror meshes.
They have to be splitted, that every mirror is a single mesh and use proper names and materials to be adjustable.
The next thing is the mapping, where especially in converted mods, the mirrors often show a distorted "picture".
And also the used texture can cause problems.
If, for example, the mirrors are mapped to the default mirror texture, that has a size of 1024 x 64, but, for whatever reason, the mod uses an own mirror.bmp with another size, you also get a stretched mirror
So it depends on "what is wrong" with a specific mod.
There is no way to solve such problems for all mods with one setting change only.
And are you sure that there was a setting in the past, with that you could stretch the "picture" in the mirror vertically or horizontally?
    I have never seen that.

It's been years but I'm certain. I found a post I made in 2017 asking what happened when it first went away. Maybe when rF2 upgraded to whatever directx they went to about then... 11?

I gave up back then and it looks like I'll have to give up again... oh well, it's not a show stopper.

    Here are two pics with:
    "Rearview Independent":true,
"Rearview Independent#":"Whether width (horizontal FOV) can be controlled independently of height (vertical FOV)",

They are 4328x1080, I cropped to the mirrors edge from 5760x1080
I've gone towards each end of the FOV and so they are titled "stretch" and "squash".
As you can see, everything in the mirror is changed, not just the vehicle.

What shits me is you drive the old ISI F3 Eve and you have perfect crystal clear mirrors then you jump in the S397 BMW M2 and it's like the mirrors have got a layer of vasoline smeared on them.

That's interesting, i have never noticed that setting.
But i suppose that it also won't work when the mirrors aren't set up properly.

Put "Moving Rearview" to 2 or 3.
Also that "Rearview Driving#" is just the mirrors visible when you get in the car.
Cycle the # / 3 key to view what mirrors you want.

I've had enough of mirrors for today.

    I don't own this car.
Is the mirror pixelated or blurry?

    @Bernd
Not the best of comparisons seeing as I've been changing mirror settings all morning.
