I am getting this error message when trying to start RF2, anyone else seen it? I have not fired it up in a while, and hope there is a solution. Attaching a screenshot of the error message.
Go into ... steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Support\Runtimes and check if you have installed the proper runtimes Report back if this doesn't help.
There are 4 in that folder, 2012 x64 and x86, and 2013 x64 and x86. When I double click there are two options, repair, or uninstall. I tried doing the repair, but I still get the same error message. Should I uninstall and reinstall?
You're probably using a 64 bit version of windows, so choose the x64 and I guess repair, maybe uninstall and re-install if it doesn't work.
I noticed the 2013 files from rFactor are different size to the 2013 files that Steam now provide. Just an observation, whether or not it will help, I can't say. Maybe better informed people might know something.
@[NAR]Steve Just an idea, even if the error message is for the launcher.exe. You have said that you didn't use rfactor 2 for a while. Do you have some plugins in use? Maybe it could help to remove all 3rd party plugins and try it then. If that don't solves the problem, rename the Userdata folder before you start the game, that a fresh one with fresh files can be generated. That helps in many similar cases.
No 3rd party plugins at all, it is baffling me. when i started it up the first time i got that message, there was a 1+ gig download, not sure what it was, that's the first time I got the message, maybe it was corrupted, but I have no idea what it was. maybe that's the problem, but I have no idea where to look for it.
Move all the files with similar name to d3d9.dll of your rF2 folder (and subfolders) to another folder in a place different of rF2.
No one has suggested step 1 of Steam troubleshooting (even though it was a VC++ error) @[NAR]Steve have you verified your game files? Right click rF2 in Steam Library, /Properties / Local Files / Verify.......
OK, no 3rd party plugins, but have you tried it with renaming the userdata folder (..\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData) before you start the game, to force the game to generate new user files? If, as you have said, you haven't used the game for a longer while, you should let the game generate new user files anyway, to ensure that you get the latest versions of these files. BTW the 1 GB download could have been the update of several older (ISI) cars, for example.
Have you got any Windows updates pending? If so do them and reboot mate, I’ve had instances where libraries appear to be locked even though they shouldn’t be.
@[NAR]Steve Seeing as it's Launcher related I would delete the Launcher folder and verify game files again.
