rFactor2 Dedicated.exe is starting from rFactor 2 Launcher, then a "cmd window" pops up with one "< chat >:" line at the top, but nothing happens. Any entered line quit's with "ERROR: HeadlessServerCommandParser:: ExecuteJSON root node isn't an array" What's wrong? My rFactor2 version is current. Starting rFactor2 Dedicated.exe f.e. from BIN64 folder doesn't find any mods. it tells: "No mod or installed mods found. Unable to continue. Please download and install at least one mod." What's wrong (I've many mods)? :-( any ideas? Leonardo (Peter)
To run a server try this link it may help. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=554544322
Ok, i managed this issue. Now I have enough mod's installed. I also reinstalled all related multiplayer files and now it opens the wanted session with "rFactor2 Dedicated.exe" > First item fixed, thanks for support. Next, I also opened all needed ports TCP 54297, 64297 and UDP Ports 54297, 64298-64299 .. in my Fritzbox 7490 and also in McAfee Firewall > but i still do not get connections but this: > On Laptop, I can see my own Server, but I can not join. > On Desktops, I can not see my own Server, and therefore i can not join. > Local multiplayer with rFactor2 still not possible for me. I get this timeout message, if i try to login from desktop in a visible laptop session. I don't think that i am a beginner, but playing rFactor2 in LAN multiplayer is very very hard since steam. How can I hosting and joining at the same PC ? Thanks for any further hints?
https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/lan-play-possible-with-steamcmd-dedi-server.58646/ You can also set up a shortcut for your own game to launch, with +connect pointing to your address and port. I think.
my "Multiplayer.JSON" shows: "HTTP Server Port":64297, "Simulation Port":54297, I recheck the correct port- Values and try again
Thanks Lazza, that was the right trace: (check the correct open ports) I rechecked the correct port- Values in my router and indeed I found typing mistakes and wrong port numbers for my desktop, like 64267 instead of 64297. (That was the reason for different behaviour). > Second item fixed, thanks for support. With correct port router values i was able to connect and joining with different PCs. I can see, join, drive, vote, but i can't see the any opponent cars: not finished yet The sucessful connections are very rare and not very reproducible. Connection is lost very often. It took hours and hours and is very frustrating and not possible to setup a LAN session. Very sad.
The thread I linked to has one reply, saying the http server port should be in the range 27013 to 27018. Did you try that? (I don't know if that will fix your problem, but it's something that's mentioned for lan play)
Hi Lazza, thanks for your support, that helps really a lot. I double checked and changed Router Port settings additional needed LAN Ports 27013. (don't know, if IPv6 Ports are also needed, will try and edit here) and inserted ports in firewall (, will try and edit here, if this is necessary) After that the rFactor2 Dedicated server : responded with invalid data (help) So i edited Multiplayer.JSON and changed "Announce Host":false, to "Announce Host":true, ( // Whether servers will attempt to register with the matchmaking service) and "HTTP Server Port":64297, to "HTTP Server Port":27013, After that on my Laptop, i was able to see my rF2 server, join and drive on same PC with very good performance > great > > Third item fixed, thanks for support. With additional port router values 27013 and changing Multiplayer.JSON i was able to connect and joining on one (same) PC. With that Multiplayer.JSON configuration, it is necessary to switch to LAN to see the server.
Had to do a new installation on a bigger disk ... After reinstallation my ..:\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData\player\Multiplayer.JSON got a reset. Then i can't see my own rFactor2 LAN Multiplayer Server anymore. Multiplayer.JSON was overridden and showed the old not functionable values. It had to remember and to revitalize all adjustments. > My recommendation to staff: please fix the default Multiplayer.JSON file "Announce Host":true, "HTTP Server Port":27013, still a great racing simulation and a lot fun to drive
