Hi all, I am new to RF2 and want to play in VR (like I do in all my other games without problems). It does not help that there is no clear setup guide for this game, and that much info is outdated… I spend this morning downloading the DX11 beta only to find out that I don't need it. I open steam VR before launching the game, think I have my settings OK (1920x1080 res in ingame settings), but I get a black screen every time. Been reading, trying for hours now and I am getting sick of it Can someone please help me out and give me some suggestions? Thanks in advance! Make sure you have oculus software running in the background before you start rF2. I have found that if you don't have it running then you get black screen. Good luck Also try this thread (lots of stuff in there but some good tips too) https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/rfactor2-the-vr-thread-settings-tips.55249/
Thanks for your reply JimmyT. Yes, I have the Oculus software running in the background... I'll try to wade through that +100 pages looking for a solution Been trying different things today, again without succes.
Make sure you look all around you in 360 degrees. Sometimes it doesn't sync the forward direction to what you have in Oculus Home and the RF2 menu is behind you.
Good point, hadn't thought of that. Make sure you have a key for re-set/center VR in rF2 controls so you can get your view to front and center. Quote from @RockShark in another thread. "To align your view correctly go to Options - Controls - Misc and set a button for 'VR centre head position' " https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/help-with-vr-odyssey-please.61604/#post-966360
Thanks, guys. Did not work either. I read the full 100+ pages in the VR thread today hoping to find a solution. Found some new things to try and had good hopes that I could finally enjoy this game in VR... But: no such luck. I am about to give up. Spend way to much hours already and all my other sims are working fine (AC, ACC, RRE, PC2, DIRT RALLY 2.0). This is so frustrating!
Not sure if you've checked these things. Make sure you have the correct graphics selected and VR enabled in the video menu.
He said he has opted out in another post https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/help-with-installation.64306/#post-1003487 I wonder if maybe removing his userdata / player folder might help.
Yes Bwana, I opted out on the beta. Halfway downloading it I found to it was no longer relevant so I ended it. I also checked if I really opted out. Grimdad: Thanks, I will check this! I am at work right now but it could be that I have it the other way around: "checked" use Steam overlay etc etc "unchecked" Use desktop game theatre etc etc Dunno if this could be the culprit? Sure hope so! Love this game but after 2 years of VR going back to my normal screen is not an option
I tried unchecking the steam desktop theatre on mine and it didn't create what is happening to you. Sorry to say. I've been searching the steam forum and found a few posts which were about black screen in vr. The solution seems to be removing the player folder but most configuration files are in userdata so to make sure I'd suggest the following. Cut and paste current userdata folder to your desktop as a back up. When you start rF2 it will create a new one or you may have to verify game files in steam (not sure here). Setup the graphic settings from the launcher like in JimmyT's post above and see if vr works. If it does you can copy your controls file over from the back up you made.
GrimBear, you are GREAT! IT WORKS! Thank you so much... I am driving the Green Hell atm and its great... Again: THANK YOU!
Good job, great you got it working Aldo as it really is nice in VR, even though the lock to horizon does not fully work properly. And @GrimDad is now a GrimBear ..... maybe Grim Daddy Bear eh !!?? LoL
