        i have had this happen to me a couple of times...try deleting the controller.json file located in SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\rFactor 2\UserData\player

        You also may have to delete the player.json. rF2 saves these files after you leave a track. If the normal shutdown is prevented, by such things as the crash to desktop or disco, then those json files could be corrupted.
