Information regarding rFactor 2 Steam (FAQ)

@GCCRacer - Well put (just saw that your post was removed). @Wiggin Well, yes, there are security concerns/risks with the launcher if using multi-player (outdated/insecure compiled-in libraries, d/ls, etc.), but the license check/news when launching off-line can be easily monitored, captured...

[REL] Mountain Forest rf2 0.92 (Download)

A bit dated, but loads of fun. Thanks for the update Mario. I'm still hoping that you'll one day find the time to take a look at Lienz.

Information regarding rFactor 2 Steam (FAQ)

Well, count me among those who feal cheated/betrayed by this decision. I bought a standard license in early 2013 and another lifetime license in Oct 2015. I specifically bought rF2 because it wasn't on Steam. I'm a US Govt programmer/contractor for some of those letter agencies (last contract...

    rf2 7.1 sound?

@David Good point. One shouldn't confuse software effects with quality of the hardware. Edit: I will admit I have SRS enabled however.

    rf2 7.1 sound?

@Ricknau In all honesty, I don't recall getting expected 5.1 in rF2 when I was using an analog THX 5.1 system. On occasion, I would use dedicated cards (only 1 of my PCs has a dedicated card now). With the Onkyo 7.1 receiver (TOSLINK - digital) I'm using with rF2, the experience seems...

    rf2 7.1 sound?

Ah, Durge ... A bit simplified, but ... With TOSLINK, no sound output processing is undertaken by the Realtek. Bits are moved from the computer to the receiver via PCM (lossless and not compressed). ALL processing (upmixing, decoding, digital to analog conversion, amplification) is done by the...

    rf2 7.1 sound?

There's always confusion and misinformation when talking about sound on a PC. Durge, we're talking about SPDIF, not analog (yuck). Up until this year I was using a THX certified Klipsch system (analog) for my PC. It died, didn't want to fix it, and didn't want to use my main sound system (dims...

    rf2 7.1 sound?

@David ... Thanks for reminding me about the hacked drivers. Since I mainly use optical when playing mp3s and downloaded YT videos (no, not porn), I never pursued this. Found a hacked r2.79 dll on techpowerup and tried it using a newer set of Realtek drivers. I now have DTS and Dolby Digital...

    rf2 7.1 sound?

Unfortunately, on my mobo, Dolby Digital live is locked (disabled) - Gigabyte was too cheap to pay the <$5 license fee I guess. I generally use PLX on the receiver for "virtual" (emulated) 7.1 although I have Dolby Digital and a bunch of other decoding options.

    rf2 7.1 sound?

Durge, the OP is using the optical output to his home theater. The Realtek is just a pass-thru. The superior DACs in his home theater box do the decoding. I have a Realtek 1150 on-board, but use optical out just like the OP to a 110w ch 7.1 system. David's response above is correct.
