This is the "rFactor Modding Showcase" thread, a showcase of your work/mod for the rFactor platform. No matter if that's 3D, 2D, vehicle, track, skin, sound, HUD, or UI, you can show it here! Even if that never will find it's way into the game or is just a proof of concept. Show your work here, inspire or find others sharing the same passion to maybe start a full project together. Beyond that, this should also the place to show others how to do things to inspire/help them to start modding on their own.

Simply in the old spirit of rFactor: Customize. Control. Connect.

Re-making the Indycar body. Poly count is a lot lower now.

Also trying to re-do everything with pbr, hopefully it'll work when that is ready.

Also got LIDAR data for Barber, so that can be updated soon too.

What information would that be? I never said anything about that.

I am just exploring the idea of such fictional track, basing it a lot on the original place. I wan't to ask if it wouldn't be incorrect in any way ?

    I hope it is ok.

Here is a view to give some clue about major elevations in the location, each different color island is 5meters higher.

Nice to see someone using Blender.

The meaning of your question "I wan't to ask if it wouldn't be incorrect in any way ?" isn't clear. With a fantasy track, it's up to you how you want the player to feel about it. E.g. is it pure fantasy, as in "here's a race track around the pyramids of Giza", or do you want it to resemble something that could be built, or might have been built in an alternate reality.

If you want it to be believable, there is also the era to consider. In the early days there were Grands Prix in places like Morocco, Libya and Tunisa, all places that were colonies of European countries. Egypt had the British in charge, so something like that could certainly have happened.

For more modern scenarios, for more modern series, you can look at what sorts of race tracks are being made in that region of the world and build accordingly. My opinion is that it's unlikely the authorities in the area would accept a modern style race track springing up out of nowhere, but something like a Formula E/local racing series track might work because there's generally less distruption (they don't need massive run off areas or a massive paddock that's not for the likes of you).

    Alternative:
Pretend the pyramids have been copied in Las Vegas along with a race track around it. That would be no less daft than building race track in a casino's car park.

Yes I am wondering if it is not somehow offending to pretend racing cars around this wonder of the world.

I am thinking about making them white like they used to be when they were built, so there will be touches of fantasy.

Formula E would probably would run out of battery too soon for climbing up the hill so steep :D But yes indeed Formula E is obviously very good fit for such race track judging by reality of noise restrictions, and types of tracks that they race in. However this layout is more like 60s or 70s type of layout, but it also might be built as a modern track, even though layout is classic type.

    Designed it in a day.

Discord user gwee told me that "It looks like an NSX beaten with an ugly stick then mixed with a Silverado truck from the Nascar truck series"

"Fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down". I presume this is a fantasy car? Though "nightmare" might be more appropriate :D

Chacun à son goût. Each to his own. The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same thing. etc. etc. etc.

It does have a nice smile though

A nightmare ? thats a bit rude IMO

What is not nice about it ? And what is nice car for you for example ?

I did attempt to make it look smiling more, I prefer happy faces. But I wish to make it to look slightly more happy. The headlights actually still makes it quite angry.

Gwee kinda has a point. No offence but it looks abit like a beaten nsx..
But a intressting design and would stand out.. rear feels a bit too long so i get the pickup truck

But 90s had some preatty odd ugly cars
We have spectre r42, mig m100 and many more..
If it doesent have the looks it have to perform great?
Well i have a car that never succeded in anything

Can't believe every one finds my car not only not nice, but ugly lol At least give a reason.

And there were more road cars that used same layout/proportions rear or mid engine:

    Why a sad face :(

Don't worry, it actually is difficult to model houses. I'm graduated structural engineer (didn't really become one, but anyway...) I also have played a bit with architecture stuff.... I have modeled my house, and sketched some projects on it ...

I am not going to show it off though, because I found out that it is not what supposed to be happening here. As you guys wouldn't even give me a single advice on my car lol and just smack down

I don't know why, but it remember me GTA San Andreas, a car that spawn only in San Fierro lol :D

Seriously, these are the changes i would do:

less squared and less pick-up-ish here
    Cattura.PNG

and here, also i'd remove that column in the windscreen
    Cattura2.PNG

    less squared also here
    Cattura1.PNG

and i'd remove that protuberance in the front bumper (full air vent instead) and i'd give to the hood a smoother shape.
    Cattura3.PNG

Headlights also can be less squared imo, with a shape that follows more the curves of the body.
(sorry for my poor draw skills)

Yeah I thought what curve would fir at the rear, but I want that it would be still relatively straight line, perhaps it should go a bit upwards, and a little bit more rounded at the very rear.

I added that middle pillar at the rear for stiffness, because whole part should work as a bonnet, so it has to be stiff. But car also could be rear engined, and use smaller engine, so perhaps then it could just with flat area as a bonnet.

At first I had more flowing front bonnet lines, and headlights with classic tear shape, but front lacked rough edges then, and then front and rear felt like from two different cars, like if front and rear were used from entirely different cars lol I think it still has some of that feel in it.

Thats actually not a bad suggestion for air intake in the front
    [IMG]

I didn't remodel it here, just painted black. Car actually looks very happy now, is more simple and a has a bit more squareish style in the front. I quite like that. Now have to think about how it would affect aerodynamics, probably have to do more channeling to the openings above and behind front wheels to release aerodynamic pressure. Also how it would affect structural strength, automatically the members that should buckle in front in case of the accident would be shorter. Also luggage space at front boot would decrease... hmm interesting bu I like this look quite a lot better.
